Our older puppy is about 9 months old. Kadence's littermate Gracie (sucker for gold) just emailed me to say he is locking doors & baring windows because Gracie has gone into heat. I figure Kadence won't be far behind.

Here is the dumb question. I never had 2 goldens ( or 2 any dogs) at the same time. Our new puppy is about 12 weeks. How soon is he mature enough to impregnant her? After Kadence reaches 1 yr we will have her spayed. I just want to be sure Kuper can't cause a problem this young before Kadence is spayed. He will also be neutered but not until after a year.
I will be leaving the breeding to the breeders. Especially after I saw how mean you all were to that other person in that recent thread. LOL I AM TOTALLY KIDDING!!!

PS -Thanks in advance because I have a doctors appoint at Cleveland Clinic tomorrow & not sure if I will be admitted & when I will get back on to answer.

Dogs reach sexual maturity between 6-12 months, so I'd say to be on the safe side, don't have them together when she's in heat once he's 6+ months.

He's not loaded at 12 weeks. ;) He'll be shooting blanks until he's around 6 months old.

Little Mr. Kuper may be excited, but he's unable to, shall we say, complete the task at hand. :) Before around six months, mounting is primarily dominance related, not a sexual thing. He may be able to smell her when she goes into heat, but he won't be able to impregnate her. Kudos to you for already planning on getting them both fixed! :)Your pups are adorable, by the way! :)

Thank you all for the info. That is what I thought, I just wasn't sure. It would be very nice if Kadence would cooperate & wait several months as I have a lot of medical stuff going on right now. I will be in the hospital some next week and that would be all I needed to come home to. NOt sure how well my son's or husband would keep her away from him. I did warn them that if she does go into heat they need to have her on a leash out side & no walks. Only the fenced yard. We live rather countrish & not a lot of close neighbors. I know the dog next door is neutered but don't know about any down the street.
