She is a 12 year old yellow lab. I have no idea what brought it on except that she was on antibiotics for two weeks in September.

It's on her hind end...I am wondering if gold bond will work without shaving the area - she freaks when she sees clippers (too many surgeries I think).

Give it a shot. I know some people do not shave the area. I always have. I also don't use the GB as much because I have a spray the Vet gave me. Thankfully, my Tucker is the last one to get a hot spot and it cleared up nicely. It was his very first. If you see the spot start to spread quickly, I'd pay a visit to the Vet.

Casey also had his first HS two weeks ago. It progressed from "really nothing" to "really gross" very quickly, even after starting him on antibiotics almost right away. I also used the vet spray and cleaned it with antibiotic soap. Once it started to heal (day 4) it dryed up very quickly. Good luck.

thank you all,

I did use the gold bond, it looks better today, but I am afraid I may need to shave it. At least it has not gotten any bigger.

thanks again,

Julie
