Just a thought (after reading numerous articles on parvo)..There's mention that your puppy can be exposed to trusted dogs that are current on their vaccinations.

But what if those dogs are carriers of parvo? Meaning, they get to go wherever they want since they've been vaccinated and could've stepped on /sniffed/carry the virus ON them? Maybe this is another preventative measure needed for puppies.

It's worriesome indeed, but I feel as if that's why most people don't recommend socializing until after your puppy has their parvo vaccination and to keep the puppy with the mom for 8 weeks. As I imagine a puppy isn't going to pick up parvo from their mother or father. My puppy got his first vaccination when he was five weeks old, and will be getting his parvo as well as others around 8 weeks. Thus giving plenty of time within the puppy socialization window to be introduced to new dogs and new things.

You can be a carrier for parvo in the same way, so can you car, your bike, your everything that has been where dogs have been who may have been infected. You have to weigh the risks. In my experience working in a shelter, socialization always trumps risk of parvo with the right measures in place: no going to dog parks, not letting the puppy hang out in areas soiled by dogs, keeping an eye on your puppy.

This topic always reminds me of those crazy parents who run around with clorox wipes...
