Our king size bed is getting smaller due to the rapid growth of our 9 month old. He is now 74 lbs and is very tall and does share the covers very well. So, we are now in the market for a good dog bed with a reasonable price. I am not sure there is such a thing.

I have looked at LL Bean and Dr. Fosters and Smith. They both have great beds but they both are pretty expensive especially LL Bean. We would just make one ourselves, however, by the time you buy the material you could just buy one for another $ 30.

Any suggestions ??

Our dogs have LL Bean beds and love them. We have the fleece top ones. Our German Shepherd's first LL Bean bed lasted just over 8 years with lots of use. We got Tucker one for his first birthday in July and he sleeps on it every night. I know they're more expensive than some others, but they last forever. It's the only kind of dog bed we use. Of course, we're from Maine so we're kind of partial to LL Bean. :bowl:

Boy do I ever have suggestions....

I have been looking for an appropriate bed for Paxton for so long. First I took into account how he sleeps, ie curled in a ball, stretched out. He sleeps stretched out, so I was looking for a long bed, not a donut. Plus I read a lot about the benefits of orthopedic beds...mostly for older dogs, but Paxton gets a lot of exercise and I thought it would be beneficial for his joints ( I may just be making excuses to spend more money).

I already posted a couple of websites on another thread, but here they are again (is it ok to post webiste links on here?)

This is Paxtons new bed.... he loves it

THis is the one I wanted but I am in Canada and the taxes and shipping were very expensive

The minute that Paxton turns into a dog that sleeps all tucked in a ball I will buy this bed....it is not memory foam but it looks so comfy and they have amazing fabric. This whole website is awesome

I know someone suggested the Costco beds and maybe they are different in Canada, but when I looked at them I couldn't believe how itchy they were for me to touch and how much they smelled like wood chips. But they do look comfy.

Good Luck. It seriously took me three months to decide.

Sometimes I board a lab and he turns up with a single duvet which he sleeps on folded in half. (the duvet not the dog!)
One of my dogs sleeps on my bed in the winter and under the window against the wall in the summer, and the other one sleeps downstairs in 3 different places in one night.
But when this duvet turns up they all want a go. Bailey particularly likes to hump it and kill it.
I have beds for the both of them but they arent interested so I put the beds away as they take up tooo much room. :p:

We are Costco bed fans here. I think they come with and without the cedar chips. They also have the "egg crate" type foam bed which I got for our older dog but she usually sleeps on Jamie's bed and he sleeps on hers.

I wanted to go the king-sized bed with the dog sleeping with us route but DH was really negative on that :(.

I love the Costco beds! ...I get the ones with berber on one side and tapestry the other. They do smell like cedar chips right off, but I love that smell! Here in Canada I get them for $25 + tax...so for me the price is right and the dogs love them!

Kuranda all the way. We have three and won't ever (have to) buy anything else. They are chewproof, easily cleaned/ sanitized and great for ortho issues. Also don't hold pollens etc like a fabric stuffed bed can. www.kuranda.com (I think)

I went to the Kuranda website..they even have bunkbeds! I would like to get one, but it seems a bit much to get a small one for the puppy stage and the crate bed for when she gets old enough to use her complete crate. They do seems nice, though.

We got our Kuranda bed delivered a couple of days ago and our pup lovvvves it!!! He instantly got on it as we all clapped. He really likes it. I wish I gotten it earlier. I got it from the clearance section so it was alittle cheaper.

I did order the deluxe pad too but he doesn't like it on the bed. He likes it just plain. He put all his stuffed animal toys on it this morning, it was too cute!

I recommend these beds. I'm really happy with and glad he took to it so fast.

Costco usually has great dog beds for much cheaper than I've ever seen anywhere... they are usually in the neighborhood of $40 including shipping.
Molson loves his Costco bed too, kind of! I think it was about $30 inc. tax here in Canada. He only starts the night curled up in it and about an hour later he gets up and stretches out, spread eagle style in the middle of our hardwood floor in our bedroom!

I love the cedar smell too so it doesn't bother me. (From the bed, not from his spread eagle, just to clairfy! haha)

I just wanted to add that we (and our dog!) also love our (Canadian) Costco bed... honestly I thought it smelled much too strongly of cedar when we first brought it home (and it was making me sneeze)... but after a little while the heavy cedar smell seems to have mostly dissipated to a much milder level. And the removable cover is handy!! I was actually thinking of getting another one, as I find myself just lugging the one we have around the house... since Oscar loves to nap on it nearby wherever we are. :)

Our biggest problem is convincing Max that beds are not giant stuffy toys to be disemboweled and devoured. We've had two of the Costco beds (roughly $30 ea.) and they seem well made, have removable/washable covers, but seem irresistible to my voracious chewer. I've had to stuff them in a closet in hopes of saving them until he's over this chewing phase. :curtain:

No matter what kind of of bed you get, my Tucker finds them all delicious! The tough part will be convincing him that it is better than sleeping on the bed with you!

Molly Mutt dog duvets

I'm currently using Molly Mutt dog duvets for my puppy and she hasn't torn it apart as she is a voracious chewer of squeakers, bully sticks, and raw bones.

Pick a duvet pattern, fill the matching size stuff sack with recycled old blankets, clothes, pillows etc and zip it up for your pupper. When I want to wash it, I can disassemble it quickly and toss all the components into my washer and dryer.
