Did I get a bum antler?

I've heard such great things about antler chews on here that I bought one for Rookie. (Boy are they expensive!) Rookie's a pretty tough chewer so I liked the idea of a chew that would last a long time. Well, it's been two days and there's only half an antler left! He has only chewed it when I am in the room, so it's not like he has broken a big piece off. Are some antlers harder than others? Did I get a "soft" one?

The only brand I know of that are soft are the Antlerz brand. I have noticed that the antlers with several branches last longer than the ones that are just one straight shot.
I think these were Antlerz brand.

I have found those to be softer, and not last very long at all.
Try the antlers from www.petexpertise.com. Linda recommended them to me and they last a long time.
Good to know!! I almost bought from their website since they looked cheaper!
XXL is the size Brady likes best.
I agree! XXL from Petexpertise. Merlin's had his for....3 months I think. Still half of it left and it's been the most consistent chew....he chews on it almost every night!
Well thanks a lot for that link!;)

I thought I'd go get each of the dogs an antler. Then I noticed that Honest Kitchen's Preference is cheaper than where I normally get it so I added a box of that. Then I saw I was only $4 away from free shipping so I added in two squeaky tennis balls. And now I've spent $100 that I wasn't planning on 15 minutes ago.

I didn't have to work two jobs before I had dogs!!
My dogs don't want anything to do with the antlers! Oh well, different strokes for different doggers.

LOL I hate when that happens!!! The dogs, however, are just fine with it. :)
I think the size is important. I won't give Ziggy anything smaller than xxl from petexpertise. The most recent xxl we got is straight, about a foot long and an inch and a half in diameter. Solid. He LOVES it. It's the only thing he really lays down to chomp on.

I tossed his last antler becasuse I was afraid he'd chew off a chunk. It was a large. We've only had two in the last year and I know this xxl is going to last a long, long time. We've already had it for about 3 months. Z's teeth are amazingly clean!
Got my antlers in. I ordered medium for my Lhasa and for the puppy. They are not that interested in them. I ordered XL for the adult goldens and they are tearing right through them. They've had maybe an hour tops of chewing time, and they're already halfway through them. I will order XXL next time.
With the really strong antler chewers, I think the elk antlers that Erica uses could be the answer. I think I am going to try them the next time.
I need to buy a bum antler, Milly hated hers! I tried all the suggestions, coat it in peanut butter - she licked it off and then was done, tried soaking it, tried rubbing sandpaper on it, etc. Nothing worked - hers was like half a set of antlers and had 4 points on that half. Maybe she'd like the softer one.

Can't say enough good things about the elk antlers...Naturally shed too - sustainable even. Yeah, we're totally green <giggle>
I bought Hank a Antlerz brand antler and he got maybe 3 days out of it and he still has most of his puppy teeth. It was sliced vertically in half, about 4" long. I'm going to try one of those XXL from Pet Expertise the next time.
