Penny will cry out or yelp sometimes if someone touches her ear or her paw. A couple of summers ago, I was watching while a woman reached for a handshake. She touched Penny's leg/paw and Penny yelped and ran off, cowering.

Yesterday, DD touched her side and she yelped. She loves DD and trusts her.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with her and it's completely random. Why does she get the idea that someone has hurt her?

I forget, how old is Penny? Because if she is getting older it might be arthritis. Now some dogs are sensitive with being touched on their paws. With my Daisy it is her tail, she hates for anyone to touch it.

Gosh, I have no idea. Gunner lets me touch him anywhere. I make a point of touching him a lot so he feels comfortable. Hopefully it's nothing serious. How old is Penny? Could it be arthritis like the others have suggested?

Penny is 7 1/2. She's done this occasionally for several years. The times I've seen it, she is barely even touched. Sometimes it appears she cries before the touch is made. It used to be just her paw, then paw and ear. We're talking maybe 3-4 times a year, really isolated. Now she seems to have added her side.
