My old fella has been off antibiotics for about a week and a new lump has come up on the side of his face. I believe he has been scratching it and now has a large irritated area(well, about 1.5" diameter) in addition to the lump. It was not very evident on Wednesday at the groomer's, but was really nasty by last night.

I shaved it as best I could, put his GentaMed spray on and restarted his antibiotics. I went with the Cephalexin instead of the amoxycillin and shall see how he does. If it's not improving tomorrow I'll call the oncologist and make an appointment. We didn't go last week since he was doing well and I had to work.

He had a really good bath on Wednesday with his medicated shampoo so his skin infection is good. That seems to be gone so I don't think this is in relation to that. Just another one of the warty lumps gone bad.:( They seem to irritate him when they first come up and over time they stop bothering him. He has tons and he has been checked by the oncologist and they were not cancer, but I don't remember the name of what they are.

He is happy and full of beans otherwise.:) He just can't seem to catch a break with his "issues", but I don't think this one is major. I just can't afford to wait and see because obviously little thinjgs can get to be major pretty quickly with him.

I'm going to go to PetSmart and get him a comfy cone today. This is the first lump/'growth he has been able to reach with his foot so he does not have a nice cone. What a christmas present for him.

I love my lumpy warty worrisome old fellow.:p: Please throw in some good thoughts and prayers for him.

Daisy has lots of lumps too, seems like a find a new one every month now. But they never bother her. Something's different about Copper's ... are they cysts then instead of like lipomas?

So sorry you're dealing with this. Hope the spray kicks in. And the cone, hate it when I have to put one of those on Daisy :(

Poor Copper. So sorry you both are going through this. Tasha is lumpy too. We were just at the oncologist visit yesterday and she has another lipoma. Hope the meds kick in and Copper feels better. We will keep you both in our prayers. Give him a big hug from us!!

They are not lipoma's. I think they are adenomas (??). They are on the surface and warty looking. He has one under his right front leg and near his paw on his left front leg that came up last month and he licked and chewed at those for a few weeks. He has now decided to leave the upper one alone, but is still chewing the one near his paw. And now the one on the side of his face/head.

Both of those were "fresh" when we were at the oncologist for the booby sized infection/lump on his chest a few weeks ago and she was not concerned about them. She just said to keep watch and if he keeps chewing them, she would take them off.

He also ignores the lipomas, but these things seem to irritate him or maybe they are just "something to chew on when I am bored"????

He's stil got the old ugly cyst on the other side of his head. Since he can't reach that it mostly gets ignored. My BassettX likes to lick and clean it for Copper, but the vet determined it would leave too big of a hole to remove.

Lumpy, warty lovely baby. I think he likes going to the vet too much. At least I hope that is what it is. I am truthfully a little worried, but trying to convince myself to stop obsessing!!!!!

Good thoughts coming your way. My two both have lumps. I'm not so concerned with Tucker's, but Shadow's is getting bigger. It will be checked out soon. Hang in there...

I hear "wierd lump" and go a little ballistic. I hope the antibiotics take care of it and it's better and he doesn't have to go to the vet. Copper - STOP OBSESSING! THAT'S YOUR MOM'S JOB. :curtain:

Give him a big ole hug from me and Dukee.

It looks better this morning. I have to go refill his cephalexin this afternoon since it seems to be working on this one. It did not help the last one - the one that required 2 or 3 visits to the specialist after 4 visits to the regular vet! It started out as a little "insect sting" that was no big deal.....................

I put diaper rash ointment on it last night. I didn't have anything I thought was actually good. I don't know if that helped or if the inflammation went down regardless of what I did or because of the antibiotics????

Better is good. that's what counts. He'll get his hugs and smooches directly.;)

ohhh the poor boy, and poor you!!
Cut his toenails real short on the back foot he's using to scratch, and then file them smooth. If you have a dog "boot", try putting that on his foot. I've used socks on my guys but they're too slippery now for poor Toby, he'll fall over :(

Poor Copper. I hope he feels better and the lump goes away on its own. I remember how bad Beau's used to get.

Lumpy, bumpy, warty...it doesn't matter in the least. You just love him more every day you have him. Hope that lump disappears in a hurry so he doesn't have to wear the dreaded cone! Smooch the old guy for me, will you please?

I love my lumpy warty worrisome old fellow.
I know you do and it's hard for those who don't even know him in person to hear he keeps having these bumps and lumps.

When Meggie had such bad skin issues after the radiation baby diaper rash cream was the only thing that helped. I never put it on raw places, just itchy hairless, rashy spots. This summer I found an Eqyss product called Mega-Tek coat rebuilder that is wonderfully soothing. I don't know that it really helps hair to grow any quicker like it claims, but it doesn't burn and does help heal. I've used it on myself too.

Hug sweet Copper and give him lots of kisses from us. Glad this isn't making him feel bad. Try not to worry (right like that's going to happen!). Love you!

I am so happy to read that Copper seems to be getting better with the antibiotics. I just hate lumps and bums too....my little Doxie Ruby has had a large one removed near her hip, and has another large one on her chest. It is so worrisome, and as others have said, seem to come with age. My little Ruby is 15, and never started to get them till she was about 12.
Please give Copper a huge hug and kiss from us here at our house. :smooch:

I bought a new pair of clippers yesterday since I couldn't seem to get the hair shaved close enough.

Poor Copper. there was another little lump hiding in his fur.:(
WAS being the operative word. I put styptic powder on it and it quit bleeding. It is hanging on by a thread.:( sheesh!

The infected area looks much better. I think I'll leave him on antibiotics until it is completely better so it does not flare back up like the last one did.

I shall snuggle Copper and whisper sweet nothings in his ear tonight to make up for not being careful enough. He didn't even flinch and he should have thrown a punch!
