5 years ago, a lady who handles rescues for a shelter about and hour form me called and asked to take an older GR who had been there 6 - 7 weeks.
I told her to contact Upstate GR rescue. I had adopted an adult male from her 3 months before and he had had quite a few issues we had almost resolved. I didn't want to risk "Chance" having a set back.
About a week+ later she called and said Upstate refused him. He was older, a mix and had a bad rep (possible biter and dog aggressive).
The shelter was going to put him down if she couldn't get someone to commit to him that day.
Copper came to live with me on October 13.
He was not and has never been a person biter. The idiot at the shelter "removed" the embedded chain with no sedative or pain med - just YANK! I still think Copper just jerked around at the guy. He has never made an ill move at me or the vet and goodness knows, he goes to vet often and has had painful things done to him.
He was male dog aggressive, but he had not been neutered. He is much better now and puts up with aggravating little brother Jack, who is a pest!
He is the light of my life and his behavior has improved drastically over the years. When we go to the vet's, the vet techs compete over who gets copper and who gets "the other dogs".
Gotcha day and then some later ones.
