5 years ago, a lady who handles rescues for a shelter about and hour form me called and asked to take an older GR who had been there 6 - 7 weeks.
I told her to contact Upstate GR rescue. I had adopted an adult male from her 3 months before and he had had quite a few issues we had almost resolved. I didn't want to risk "Chance" having a set back.

About a week+ later she called and said Upstate refused him. He was older, a mix and had a bad rep (possible biter and dog aggressive).:( The shelter was going to put him down if she couldn't get someone to commit to him that day.

Copper came to live with me on October 13.:) He was not and has never been a person biter. The idiot at the shelter "removed" the embedded chain with no sedative or pain med - just YANK! I still think Copper just jerked around at the guy. He has never made an ill move at me or the vet and goodness knows, he goes to vet often and has had painful things done to him.

He was male dog aggressive, but he had not been neutered. He is much better now and puts up with aggravating little brother Jack, who is a pest!

He is the light of my life and his behavior has improved drastically over the years. When we go to the vet's, the vet techs compete over who gets copper and who gets "the other dogs".

Gotcha day and then some later ones.

Happy Gotcha Day Copper and Mom. I love all the pictures but that one of him under the blanket on the bed just makes me smile. Such a sweetie. You are very blessed to have each other.

Have a happy gotcha day Copper!!

Poor baby had an embedded collar? That's such a sad way to live. The lack of neglect, and the love that he now has sure shows in his happy face now.

Thanks for the good wishes everybody.

Copper sure is a happy dog. If he isn't smiling and wagging his tail something is seriously wrong.

turning him down initially sounds so outlandish to me now. Of course, I thought the rescue would take him. the GR I had gotten 3 months before copper was a a real introvert. Very scared and afraid of the world. It took a lot of work to rehabilitate him and I think copper actually helped relieve Chance's anxiety once they worked out their differences.:)

We have a great time plundering around in the woods looking for turtles, taking trail rides and even just snuggling and watching TV.
I guess it is pretty much the same for all of you.;) don't they make life so much better?!

Copper can't have an ice cram cone now that he has had another bout of pancreatitis, but I will give him an extra chest rub, snuggle and kiss from Cindy and Megs.

Kim, he is such a sweetie and all the time. Never a grumpy boy at all. He reminds to enjoy life when I forget.

Copper's bedroom was originally a storage room. It is about 15' x 20'. A few years ago I decided to finish the walls (used beadboard - easy!) and make it "our" room. We have a TV, VCR, Dish satellite, a really big couch (can't think of the word - L shaped), recliner, stereo, multiple dog and cat beds and a treadmill (DH's).

It is in the basement and the door is open to the outside all the time so cats and dogs can go in and out at will. I DON'T have to keep it clean either! One of the best ideas I ever had. No more fussing a me about dirt and hair by DH.
