I'm so sorry. Don't second guess yourself. If he had reached the inappetence stage, he did not have long and your decision was the kindest for him.

Thank you. You may not remember, but I spoke with you when we first got Copley from Grand Bay Goldens. He had some of your beautiful dogs in his pedigree.I'm so sorry. Don't second guess yourself. If he had reached the inappetence stage, he did not have long and your decision was the kindest for him.

I believe this with all my heart. If you had some kind of guarantee that you could take him home and get another month of pain-free, quality days for him, I'd say go for it. But the ultra sound didn't show that scenario. Your boy had a couple more hours or a couple more days but not a couple of more months. No one who read your thread would think for a second that you and your husband didn't do what you felt was best for your beloved boy. Having small children and a large dog means that you could easily have been caught at home with your boy crashing and no one to help get him to an emergency vet. Your children didn't need to remember their dog that way and that wasn't the end that I would choose for my dog. Please allow yourself some grace to grieve Copley, he deserves it and so do you.Better a day too soon than a day too late.
Thank you, and I'm so sorry for your loss as well. Our goldens are knit so tightly in the fabric of our everyday lives. I still find myself breaking off a piece of my banana for him. My early morning walks with him were my moment of peace before a busy day with kids and work. Our entire neighborhood knew him and loved him. He never met a stranger, and leaned on the legs of everyone who stopped to pet him. I just don't feel like myself without him.I'm sorry for your loss of Copley. He looks very handsome in his photo. We're going through the same thing at our house right now as we lost our girl on Sunday. I agree with th others here that suggest focusing on good memories and photos to help you through this. If it helps to write them or share them here, please feel free to do that as well.
Thank you for saying this. my husband and I have been repeating it. Sparing him pain was the best thing we could do. We were able to speak with our regular vet and she completely agreed with our decision.Better a day too soon than a day too late. With his diagnosis it was only a matter of time, don't second-guess sparing him anymore pain.
