Constant flea problems

I've been battling fleas for the past couple months with Cooper. I give him monthly topical treatments with Zodiac (although, i've learned it really only lasts 3 weeks maximum), but this isn't keeping the fleas off of him. I know exactly where he's picking the fleas up, but unfortunately it's the only place nearby that he can do his business (i live in an apt.). I ordered the bug-off garlic tablets yesterday, so I'm hoping they will help.

Is there something safe/non-chemical that i can use in the meantime? I just treated him yesterday with the topical stuff, but that'll take a few days to kick in, and it still doesn't keep the fleas off.

I wish winter would just come and freeze these stupid fleas.

I too am battling fleas this summer. I don't usually have to treat at all but this summer has been horrible. I use frontline plus but that only lasts for about 2 weeks. The vet said not to treat any earlier than every three week but I think that is even too much. When I have used this in the past it would last for about 6 to 8 weeks. Sometimes even all summer. I just started using a peanut butter, brewers yeast and garlic powder on their food. So far, so good. It took a while for it to start working but I haven't seen any fleas and I haven't treated them in 4 weeks. I don't want to treat the yard because of the chemicals. I read that it is safe to use food grade diatomacious earth to kill fleas. It can be spread in the yard and it can also be fed to your dog to safely remove parasites. I am all for holistic alternatives. I prefer to try them before I resort to the poisons that are traditionally used. If anyone has tried this flea and parasite treatment please let me know. I have not yet ordered it because I have not been able to find it locally. I would like to order 50lbs online and as you can imagine, the shipping is pretty expensive and I don't want to waste the money if it doesn't work. Here is the web sites that I found the info for the diatomatious earth.

My girlfriend in Texas orders from them all the time and hasn't had any problems. Please keep me informed on your experience with them.
We used Vectra 3D this year that we bought at the vet's and we haven't seen a single flea or tick all spring or summer. We have lots of woods behind our house and the dogs love to romp around out there and this stuff has worked great.
What is dirtworks??
A website where you can purchase diatomacious earth, among other things
Is that something you put on your lawn? Im sorry to sound stupid..I use K( Advantix, but my daughter is getting a puppy and we were looking for "safe" things for fleas as she is living in an apartment and shes sure there are fleas in the yards

I have read that it is safe for humans to eat also but it must be food grade. I spoke to my vet about it and she said that she has some clients that use it to control parasites (worms) in their dogs and that she has not had any negative responses. A holistic vet and nutritionist used to work in her office but has since left to open her own clinic. My vet still uses some of her practices.

I just called them. They ran out of it. They have now gotten it back in and it should be on it's way.:greenboun I'm hoping and praying it works!
Revolution is a topical liquid medication which is used for flea prevention, heartworm prevention, and the prevention and control of ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and American dog ticks. It is used once a month and is applied conveniently at one spot on the skin.
I tried revolution and it didn't work out that well for me. It worked for the fleas but my dogs became loaded with ticks. I called the 800 number and they said that it only takes care of one kind of tick. I guess I have the other kinds of ticks. They were kind enough to refund my money.
