I am looking into buying a golden retriever with the intent to do therapy work. I had a reputable breeder that I was interested in, but all of the deposit spots filled before I got a chance to decide, and they don't plan on having any for a while. This is the case with many breeders I have researched in Utah. Most of them are having litters in March. I am hoping to find a litter that can come home more towards June because I am going to Switzerland for a week and I would prefer to care for a puppy after I have come back. Is there a specific time of year that puppies are more available?
I am also interested in anyone's take on buying a puppy from KSL classifieds. There seem to be a lot more on there than there are professional breeders in Utah.
Thanks for any help!
I've looked for about 10 minutes trying to find decent breeders, and have not been able to find any in Utah (there's a couple I found that appear not-so-good, though). If you're not finding any, you may need to go out-of-state to find one. Other than that, you can see if there are any local golden retriever clubs in your area, and see if they recommend any.
Definitely be on the lookout for breeders that do OFFA hip and elbow screenings, as well as heart and eye health screenings. There's lots of other things to consider, too.
That is the breeder that I was interested in, but she doesn't have any more spots until fall, which won't be the ideal time for me to get a puppy. I would rather get one towards the beginning of summer because it would be more accommodating for my work/class schedule.
