Bitch 3.5 yrs old
Had pups six weeks ago.
Last few days has started bleeding a bit. Red colour and looks like it might be bits of the puppies birth sack as I found a very thin membrane in the blood this morning.
Vet immeditely suspects pyometra, but she doesn't have any of the other symptoms.
Book of the bitch says blood discharge may continue for several weeks but has anyone else had this at six weeks. Has not been continious since birth but intermitant.
Thanks,
Richard in London with 9 lovely pups.

I've had bitches have discharge until puppies are totally weaned. I would imagine what you found (6 wks later) was not sac membrane but maybe coagulating blood. Did the vet do an US? You'd see a closed pyo, and you'd smell an open one.

Bleeding

I would have her at the vet right now, so they can make sure she is alright.

How did your vet want to treat this? Do you have a reproduction vet anywhere near you? I would get a second opinion from a more specialized vet if possible.

Vet - discharge should NOT go back to being bright red and membrane in the blood is a bad sign. Bring a sample with you for the vet to look at under the microscope.
