I think that Parker enjoys hearing himself bark. I am trying to ignore it so that it doesn't reinforce the behaviour but I live in a townhouse and I don't want to disturb the common wall neighbours. So far the only thing I have found that makes him quit is to put him in his crate and cover it, like one would with a bird.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Neither of my other two goldens were barkers so this is all new for me.

When Mojo barks excessively I make him sit beside me. He barks when he hears DH coming home from work but if I get him to sit and wait then he's quiet. I release him just as DH is coming in the door and then he starts barking again but that only lasts for two seconds.

I should also say that this is after I've checked that nothing is going on that I should know about and he's trying to alert me to it.

Hope this helps.
