Not nearly as dramatic, but I was very surprised and disappointed at the poor follow through from a rescue organization where I was willing and wanting to volunteer. I was interviewed and got the impression they were delighted to have me perform a certain public relations duty. I showed up on time and ready to work only to find the person I was to work for wasn't there and no one else could help me. That wouldn't have been so bad except it happened twice - and my emails/voicemails were ignored. I know for sure my services were needed and my involvement was greatly appreciated (by others)... but this horrible communications really ruined it for me. However, no dogs or cats were injured during my state of frustration. Ack.

Though I can understand your disappointment at being treated unfairly, it should be kept in mind that a rescue's priority/focus should be on the dogs in their care. There are a lot of rescues out there doing a lot of good for a lot of dogs, saving lives, giving a second chance to dogs who may not otherwise get one and that is what rescue is about. Absolutely, not all rescues will meet everyone's perception of how a rescue 'should' operate, not all will be a good 'fit' for every volunteer, that is a reality.

There are a lot of really wonderful Rescue Groups that are helping thousands of dogs each year and have a great group of Volunteers that work well together, support each other and work great as a Team.

You will also find groups that have a lot of problems or have lost the main focus which is helping the dogs.

I feel sometimes the only way to get things to change is by getting involved to make it happen. Too often I see people criticize something yet they don't want to get involved or can't for whatever reason to make change come about.

I think the good groups far outweigh the bad ones, there's a lot of great work being done by Rescue Groups and a lot of dogs/cats are being helped, saved, and placed into wonderful homes.

If you read the blog, it says while being treated for a serious medical issue something didn't get done, and she's being blamed.

Why would anyone give someone a hard time for something not being done WHILE THEY WERE SICK.

That is really inexcusable and massively insensitive.
