Hi, I’m from the UK and I was wondering if anyone knows of any golden retriever breeders in the UK or EUROPE or even any American Breeders that import American Goldens to the UK

thanks

Welcome to the forum. Carefully bred Golden puppies were in high demand even before the pandemic, but now even more so. Many breeders won't even take new applications. I suspect that unless you compete in a sport or show, you will find that reputable breeders would need to develop a relationship with you before they would entertain the idea of flying a puppy overseas given that the pet market is so strong here. Are you looking for a competition dog? It might help to know what you're looking to do with your dog for people to make suggestions. As in your own country, the breed club would be a great resource, www.grca.org for regional puppy referral. I also strongly suggest using the site and this one to look at the recommended clearances and genetic testing in the U.S. as they are a bit different than in Europe. Best of luck with your search.

I think there is one stud dog in the UK that has US lines a long way back. There is a kennel in Italy that also has those lines. Puppies from reputable breeders in the UK are almost impossible to buy at present due to lockdown and I suspect you will not be able to buy a puppy until next year at the earliest. You need to research the kennels you are interested in and go on a waiting list and hope. We are all getting numerous enquires daily. If you are buying a puppy in the UK the dog should have a hip score under 20 preferably lower and elbow score of 0 or 1and an eye certificate dated within the last year. Gonioscopy was introduced in January but only some eye specialists are testing at present due to Covid. DNA for PRA 1 and 2 should also be tested and some test for ICT but many are carriers. You should not be paying more than £1600 or slightly more nearer London. Expect to be asked many questions about yourself and the sort of home you can offer a dog. Breeders are very picky where their puppies go and if they aren't then my advice would be not to buy. I expect you know all this information anyway so if you do just ignore this message! Anne

Royal Crest goldens are the Italian kennel with US ones but there is a small amount of US breeding in another UK stud dog I have found. Yes I breed occasionally but show( when covid is not around) and judge more Annef

Did you have any luck trying to locate a US breeder in the UK?

I have found one more stud dog with US lines but way back in the pedigree. Imports are usually pets (a friend brought 2 back from the US) the breed standard is different in the UK . There is one working kennel with US but please be careful and look at the thread in this section! This is s puppy that goes back to US lines way back Annef 630C14DC-F7FA-43EF-B694-4094B5B1ABBB_1_201_a.jpeg

Annef, thank you for your response and sharing some knowledge. We very sadly lost our golden who joined the relocation from the US to the UK a number of years ago.

As you say the breed is quite different, certainly in appearance and we would love our next to share some of those characteristics. Would you be willing to share the name of the kennel with US lines?

Thank you!

I have checked and on both dogs it is 7 or more generations back so a long way behind. Will pm the names of the dogs incase the owners don't want the names on a public forum (Lots of dog theft in the UK at present once everyone is being very careful)Annef
