I have a one year old golden and just got a new puppy he is 12 weeks old. It was super hard because of my older dogs anxiety, luckily with him being here its helping her. Her anxiety around other dogs is so much better. I would say if you can find a ethical breeder, have the time, energy, and money for your dog and a puppy/new dog. Then go for it!

Just as long as the dog is for YOU and not for Sophia. I'll never have just one dog again. Having two is a LOT of fun. However, you'll want to be very sure that you're satisfied with Sophia's training. Younger dog will learn a lot from the older dog so you want to be sure you're definitely in control of her and her manners are what you want. Just be sure you are ok with twice the money, twice the poop and twice the cost for everything - vacations are a rude awakening if you try to board somewhere nice - two dogs for a week is insane. Oh and did I mention daily vacuuming? But honestly, it's SO much fun to have two.

My first golden i was satisfied with training till we brought the new one home, she is learning slowly again and the new puppy is super smart already knows sit, and to pose. He has show and hunting in his blood. And i should be recieving papers. But please make sure your really ready for double everything, especially mischievous behaviors. Let us know if you get one! And the fur, my puppy is 12 weeks old and is already shedding.

This is just what I would do, as you have to do what you feel your dog and you are ready for in life. For me, I think I’m going to wait until mine is about five years old. I have two dogs right now though — a Golden and a Cavalier King Charles. I eventually want two Goldens. I feel my male is just getting really nice with his obedience feet up under him (he turned three in November.) I want to spend some quality time with him enjoying it. By five years old, he will be able to help a new puppy become a stellar canine citizen. :) I’ve read female Goldens mature a little faster in general? I don’t know.

My female golden learned super fast, my male puppy isnt learning as fast but he is intelligent. So in my experience females do mature and learn faster.

Mine learns real quickly. I just think he also very much loves having fun. I noticed a big jump in his maturity from 2.5 to three years old. My female Cavalier is a force to be reckoned with. She thinks she’s queen of the house and I think I am, so we are still working it out. :ROFLMAO:

Hi,
I have a 2.5 year old female Golden. I am thinking about getting another Golden. Sophia is very attached to us and like’s attention. Any advice?
Thanks
Think about where your life is likely to go over the next ten to fifteen years. Do you have children or do you plan on having children? Many people impulse buy a dog, then when they have children decide that owning a dog and raising children is too much for them and they give their dog up. I've seen HUNDREDS of people in my state repeat the same sad story. You'd think that with how many people there are that make the mistake of getting a dog only to discover that they can't handle raising dogs and children together, people would read these re-homing stories and take note.

Sorry, irritated tangent. Anyway, if you plan ahead you will be a whole lot better off. If you're sure you can commit to another dog for the life of that animal, that you'll have the support you need from friends and family (because you won't always be able to take care of the dog entirely on your own), then go for it. :)

He would rather listen for a ball or a really expensive high quality treats that his puppy class has and i cant get them because she only sells them at certain times and they are 40 dollars a bag. He went into his kennel today and he is learning to hold his bladder. So he is definitely learning.
