Hi there! We have recently brought home our new golden puppy, Charlie. He is 7 wks old and I was wondering how much exercise should he be getting? I do know that it is not a good idea to over-exercise at this young age but I want to make sure that he is getting enough.

I am a stay-at-home mom of 3 yr old twins so Charlie is rarely left alone, besides when he naps. He is put in his kennel while we go out but is only in there for a max of 2hrs at a time. (I also time my outings so that they coincide with his nap times).

Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance!!

I would do little running around in the yard, and introduce the leash and walk him around the yard in the grass. If you have a puppy kindergarten near you, it would be great to have him enrolled, he will get alot of exercise and also socialization with other dogs.

I do have him enrolled in puppy kindergarten. It is starting in a week and a half. Charlies is starting to get used to the leash...he was pretty unsure of it at first! I'm excited to get him socialized. We had a rotti for 12yrs and he was NOT properly socialized, it made it difficult to get him involved in many activites.

Maya's Mom, thanks for the post. Good to know that I am not over-exercising him.
