I don't have any ideas for you, but would like to wish you well.
Are you looking to sell food and accessories as well as offering grooming? That is what the small shop where I buy Ike's food offers.
I prefer the smaller Mom and Pop shops and keeping my dollars in our local communities.
My favorite local pet shop Dharma Dog carries high quality dog foods that you can't find in the big pet stores like Petsmart. That's why I started going there. At the time, I was feeding Rookie Canidae and when I searched online this was one of the local places that carried it. They specialize in dogs and cats (mostly dogs!) Dharma Dog also has a pet wash service. Their Web site has some pictures.

Here's what I like to see in a small independent pet shop:
- high quality foods and treats that you can't get at the big pet stores
- better, cooler, more stylish collars, leashes, harnesses, etc. I'm willing to pay more for them as long as they are high quality and a little unique.
- natural dog treats, Rookie doesn't do well on corn or wheat so I look for treats that don't include them. That can be hard to find.
- seminars or events that bring people in. For instance, a local pet store had a pug party when I went in one day. The place was full of pug owners. They haven't had a golden retriever day yet, but I watch their event calendar in case they do. It's just something fun to do.

Good luck!

There are a couple of nice pet stores I like to visit:

Pawsmopolitan: http://www.pawsmodog.com/index.html

The Village Groomer (supplies & grooming): http://www.villagegroomer.net/index.html

Especially for Pets: http://www.especiallyforpets.com

The first two have nice pictures of how the stores are arranged.

Good luck!

Christina, are you referring to a pet shop that sells animals, or strictly a boutique type store with supplies, fun pet items, and perhaps grooming?

oh no, i don't want to sell any animals!!
i intend to open a pet shop as a boutique with supplies, fun pet items and wash-box self service!
I will want to organize meeting in schools for sensitize children on the animals respect and many things like that!
It will be a dream come true for me!
:)
There are some dog bakerys as well. Their main thing is to sell fancy doggy cookies (treats) and some even create birthday cakes for your dog. In any doggy bakery I've been in, they also carry supplies - such as colars, harnesses, leashes, and other unique accessories you wouldn't find anywhere else.

Sounds like you've got a great dream! I hope you make it come true. Please keep us updated on your progress.
The local pet shop near me has a specialty dog bakery. Like cookies & biscuits that are all natural. They carry good quality dog food & lots of dog toys, collars, leashes, bowls, doggie clothes.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. Perhaps you might find local artisans who do pet related items and sell or consign their work.
sure! I am an artist!;)
I paint portraits that depict animals generally!
Painting is all my life !
