Quiz and I competed in two days of ASCA Agility this weekend. We Q'd in 6 of 10 runs (and placed in 4 of them - one 1st, two 2nds and a 4th), but best of all, he held his start lines! The start line had become a weak point for us, so I took about a year off and really re-tooled it... and it seems (fingers crossed!) to be helping!
The courses were all really nice and flowed quite well... even in areas where, during the walk thru, you'd think for sure the dogs would bomb it. For example, there was a jumpers run that started with 4 jumps in a straight line, aiming DIRECTLY at a tunnel that you weren't supposed to take! I was thrilled that we Q'd in that run b/c I lead out really far and he held the start, and he didn't suck into the tunnel!
So now he's officially completed all the requirements for his Elite titles in Jumpers, Standard and Gamblers, and I guess if we keep showing in ASCA, we're now on the road to the ATCH! He has half his points for jumpers already, but very few points for Standard or Gamblers. I don't know if we'll seriously go for it. I kinda like having the titles and just using the runs to try different handling tricks that I'm normally not brave enough to do when I'm really hoping for the Q. I dunno. We'll just see what happens. There aren't a ton of ASCA trials around anyway.
OMG... and the BEST thing about ASCA is the cheaper entries! I paid $9 per run vs. AKC pricing of about twice that!
He's a tired boy tonight!
