I have a 2 1/2 year old Golden, Mason. I got him at 7 weeks old so I'm pretty certain he's never had any trauma done to him. He's absolutely great with people and has never met a person that he didn't want to play with and be petted by. We go on daily walks in which he sees other dogs and people and they don't phase him at all. He's a very well socialized dog when it comes to people and other animals.
However, any object that he's not used to causes him to tuck his tail and scurry to a different area. How do I fix this? I know the obvious answer is to get him used to things, but it's difficult to do when he won't go near an empty cracker box on the floor. Pieces of paper, plastic bags, wrappers...literally a very long list of things that cause a visible fear in him. He acts like he wants to investigate things, but always chickens out. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
