So i own chickens and will be getting ducks. Our oldest golden learned to leave the chickens alone and she goes after birds that arent the chickens. But the youngest puppy goes after the chickens and any bird he sees, if i stop this will he not want to hunt pheasant like im training him for?

I dont want to stop it but, he cant go after my chickens and the ducks will be in our house around a gate. He somehow figures out how to get everything he wants except for food so far. Thank you! I can let him keep wanting to hunt the wild birds but my chickens are fenced off and he tries to get into the run with them.

In a brooder(i will be raising them and keeping them for meat/eggs) sorry for the misunderstanding. He will knock the gate over and try to get them. I dont want ro discourage him from his hunting instinct, but i dont want him to eat my birds either. I want to raise pheasant and use them for my pups to teach them to hunt. But our town has an ordinance.

Keep them in a spare bathroom, and shut the door. Will stink, but better than trusting a gate.

Consider buying meat and eggs from someone with a better place to raise them than in the house.

We had the chickens 5 months before we brought home Denver. And she was great with them and still is. Tucker on the other hand is different.
