:(We took our Mandy to the vet today because she has been not putting her weight on her left foot. We didn't really know what it was. Well, our vet looked her over and decided it was in her hip so we did x-rays and also a blood check because she hasn't been eating much for quite awhile without me having to doctor it up with something.
Well, when all was done we were told and shown she has really bad hips, and her kidneys have big problems partially shut down. Plus her blood pressure was very high. Too be honest, I lost it ! She is only 4 yrs. old. We have always taken excellent care of her.
Our vet suggested that we flush her system today and then try to get her started on a prescrtion can food. The important thing is to get her eating again. So we let them do this and then we brought her home and the vet had said that she wanted us to get her to eat carbohydrates and as much vet food as we could get into in small meals over the days. We will then be taking her in probably on Friday. Of course the worst senario to all this is we could lose her anytime. If we get her kidneys in performing correctly again then we will move on to joint meds for the hips.
What a sad hard day for Mandy and us. Please all try to keep her in your prayers. We will do all we can for her but I will not let her suffer if thats what it comes to.

I'm sorry to hear that Mandy is not feeling well. I will definitely keep her and you in my prayers. Please let us know how she is feeling throughout the week. The vets have lots of ways that they can help and she is just a youngster.:crossfing

I am so sorry to hear about Mandy's problems. My Rowdy had to go on high blood pressure medicine (they never found the cause of the high BP) so I do know that can be controlled and I am sure your vet has ways to help with the other issues.

Poor Mandy girl- I so hope she responds well to her new diet and her kidneys function better. A few people on the forum have been dealing with kidney issues very successfully, so there is hope! The hips are a tough issue if you cant really add metacam or rimadyl because of the kidney function. Our golden with elbow dysplasia takes the joint supplement Dasuquin and it works wonders. I'm going to check back here for good news, and I think there's a good chance she can do well with all this after the initial shock is over.

Praying that your Golden girl gets better as the week progresses. Did the vet give any indication what the cause of the kidney failure could be from or is it due to the high blood pressure? (i.e., could it be due to ingesting a toxin or bad food, etc.)

I am so sorry to hear of the problems with Mandy, especially so young. When my JC was first diagnosed w/ kidney problems he was already almost 13. I credit the additional time I had with him with a product known as Azodyl; however, my first vets did not have much enthusiasm to use, my third vet advised he had some success with it. One of our forum members is also using this product as she has a golden with kidney issues, hopefully she can chime in and also give you some advice. Please check with your vet about Azodyl and see what he/she says (BTW, it is non-prescription so you can get it through other sources than your vet but it does have to be refrigerated so shipping is a little higher). You can pm me if you have any questions.

I am so sorry aobut Mansy's health problems. It is so much harder when they are young and you have done everything right!!!!!!
I hope she does better on the prescription food. My old guy was changed over to Science Diet W/D a few weeks ago and he loves it.
I'll keep you and Mandy in my thoughts and prayers.

Only 4..is this common? Kidney problems at 4? Did the doctor give you any indication as to why this is happening? It sounds so bizarre at her age. Bad hips too...holy cow...she is only 4!

I sure am sorry. I can imagine how you are feeling. Just so sorry! I will pray that she will be ok.
