1. Is there a way to get an affordable (like under $50) dog bed that my dog won't chew to pieces or rip the stuffing out of? Or is there anyway I can prevent this? The first night we had Kaylee's new dog bed she destroyed it. I like having a dog bed in the bedroom for the nights the bed is too crowded or it gets too hot for her, but I don't want to waste money on another bed she'll chew in less than 24 hours.

2. Kaylee has a black spot on the center of her tongue, and as she gets older it just gets larger. What the heck is it?!

and 3. Any tooth paste recommendations? We have a chicken flavored one, but I'm not a fan of the smell, I want something mintier and fresher and good for her teeth. We feed her the fish flavored Blue Buffalo (it's supposed to be for sensitive stomachs, which our baby has) and of course, we get face fulls of fishy dog breath now. Anyway to freshen or sweeten it that's healthy and good for her? Thank guys :D

Cabella's usually has fairly cheap dog beds if you have one in your area, or you could probably order it online. We got a nice sized one there last winter for $20 as a spare bed to put in our basement. Our other beds are from LL Bean, but they were quite a bit more expensive, but great quality. However, it might be a good idea to wait until your pup is out of the chewing phase before purchasing a bed. Tucker couldn't have his own bed until he was about 10 months old. He would chew them to pieces before then.

As for the toothpaste, we usually just get the Pro Pet brand at Target. It works really well. It's fresh flavor, whatever that is supposed to mean, but the dogs don't seem to mind it. It smells okay. :bowl:

I gave up on dog beds for a young dog a couple dogs ago.

He just has his own blanket and even that has holes in it! But Brady is very content with it, and it is a lot easier to bring with him if he needs to be boarded.

The black spot on the tongue is just pigmentation, like a birth mark. We affectionately call them "treat spots", because that is where you place the treat. It is also one of the most popular reasons a new GR puppy owner will make an unnecessary appointment with the vet.

We bought our dogs tootbrushes and toothpaste-they came together at the pet store. Snobear loves it so must taste good.

As far as the beds Sam's Club usually has a good price on them.
Did you try spraying it with Bitter Apple or something that will deter her from chewing on it?

If your guy is chewing up the beds, it's pretty much down to one last choice. Kuranda.

Gilmour has torn up 4 beds of varying designs. I've spent twice as much on beds as I would have if I would have just paid the $130 for the Kuranda in the first place.

I ordered one yesterday and it should be here Monday. If he manages to chew that up, which I'm told is, ahem, impossible :))), he is gonna sleep on the ****** floor !

You have lots of great responses above. If your pup chews the bed then they don't get a bed. That is not at all mean since my guys have several to choose from and usually sleep on the floor. The black spot on the tongue means your pup is severely deprived of treats and needs many, many more of them to live a healthy and happy life. :D:D:D

Thanks everyone :) We may just skip a bed for now, she's more than happy sleeping in our anyways, the cat just needs to learn to share better! And good to know the black spot is common and nothing to worry about :)

Kuranda beds cost a little more, but they last forever and are easy to clean and disinfect. They also are really good for any ortho probs. www.kuranda.com

As for teeth, I swear by the Petzlife products. I believe they now carry them at Petsmart. You can either use a spray or gel, and it REALLY works. www.petzlife .com

The dark tongue spots are fondly called "treat" spots.... nothing to worry about.

I agree about the Kuranda beds. They may seem expensive at first but think about how many of the other beds you may end up buying in the end. These are used a lot by shelters, breeders, etc and get a lot of tough, high end use. Love them! There are a lot of fabric options. I also like the metal legs as there is no way to chew those. Trust me it will be worth your money to just buy quality upfront.

As far a black spot of the tongue--others have already mentioned pigment and that is correct. I love seeing a black spot on the tongue. A lot of the dogs I breed have one and I always try to tell puppy buyers about it so that they understand. One time I forgot and I got a frantic call from a buyer who just saw a vet that told them their new puppy with two champion golden parents MUST be a chow mix since it has a black spot on its tongue! The owner knew better but still was upset hearing a vet say this. Needless to say they changed vets.
