I have a 3 year old who, when he gets excited (people coming to the door, new people at park, etc), will start pawing at people's legs. He's not trying to hurt anybody he's just very friendly and doesn't realize his own strength. However, he's very forceful because his paw comes straight down and it hurts. My girlfriend has a few bruises from it.

A lot of times he will pick up a toy and then start doing it, because it's a habit for him to pick up a toy when he does this. So we try and take the toy away and that calms him down sometimes. He's good with sitting but doesn't really listen when he's this excited. We tell him off and push his paws down to the ground but this hasn't really been working

Any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks!!
