Hi Everyone! I have been a big reader of this site since we got beautiful Asscher 1 year ago! (I have finally figured out how to start a thread.. pathetic!) She's almost 14 months.
So, she's wonderful. A joy. Best thing that ever happened to us... BUT!
She is controlling the walks and it's driving me crazy. We will start on a walk and she will lie down because she doesn't want to go in a certain direction. She doesn't only lie down, but she does "jelly" like when bratty kids are having tantrums and turn into spaghetti and you can't even pick them up! She's 75 pounds and lies on her back because she knows I am angry. Then we walk, lies down in the shade, walks, lies down because she sees a dog and wants to wait for them to so she can try to play. I first tried a collar, then a choke collar (not metal, just rope) then a freedom harness. I obviously don't want to strangle her or drag her along the street but this is getting ridiculous. Sometimes I end up in tears because I literally can't move her. i know she isn't injured because I take her to a dog park and she runs like mad, I take her to the beach and she runs around like crazy playing with other dogs etc. When we are at my parent's house with a backyard she doesn't sit still. (We live in an apartment)
Also, she's starting to BARK on our walks.. like if she sees someone coming out of an apartment, or sees something new on the street like a bag of garbage that usually isnt there- she will also bark at a random shopping cart on the sidewalk. She also barks when there is someone new coming to the door. I don't mind a watch dog but this is getting SILLY!! We live in Los Angeles, so there is a lot of concert and yuck things on the street. Anyone have any advice? I feel like my tempting with treat is not working- I need some serious help! i have a firm voice when I'm a angry but she just laughs at me. I love her more than anything but I'm frustrated. HELP!!
