No not a play on an old Beatle / Joe Cocker song but the saga of how Magic got trapped under the deck and how we got him out.
It all starts with a phone call from mblonde at the office this morning. "Magic is under the deck and can't get out!"
Now Tabitha, Magic's companion GR, is a lithe little creature - and she is smart. She goes under the deck and crawls all around and knows how to get back out. Well, Magic is a really good dog but not as bright as Ms Tabitha. He wanted in on the fun - but was afraid to back out the way he came in once he got under there.
Mblonde is a capable, smart woman - so I just knew she would have the problem solved by the time I got home. I got off work at 11AM (part-time job) and drove to the feed mill for horse feed and bedding. I get home about 11:40 - and Magic is still trapped! On and around the deck is an assortment of poles, tools, leads etc. Everything mblonde tried didn't work. Magic wasn't about to move and I'm thinking: gotta remove some decking boards to resolve this one!
"Where is he?" I asked. "Over by the window well," she replies. I look under the deck to find a very distressed boy dog giving me his best pleading look. Then mblonde asked me if the screen came out of the basement window.
Well, hit me upside the head with a light bulb. Of course it does. I head down to the basement, take the stuff off the top of the storage shelf that is in front of the basement window, open it up and pop out the screen - and there is a little boy dog head staring down at me.
It took some coaxing and a slice of American cheese, but Mr. Magic finally got his nerve up to slip into the window well where he was grabbed by mblonde, who was sitting on top of the shelf. She pulled him through the window and quickly handed him off to me to set him down on the floor.
Exit one happy boy dog to get a drink of water upstairs and back outside to pee.
And that is how ♫ He Came In Through The Basement Window ♫
