last i asked, layla was fond of sealy and tempurpedic.

i'm in the midst of finding her a bed for her to call her own, but she prefers mine instead and always has! she doesn't mind the couch, either!

I don't have a Costco membership. We do have a Sam's Club one. I like Sam's Club dog beds, but they are all smaller than what I was hoping for. Maybe they were just picked over when I was there. I guess that I'll check back in a few weeks to see if they've replenished their box.

I second the Kuranda's. After going through about 5 beds, including a cheap Kuranda clone, I finally paid the money for a Kuranda.

All the other beds were destroyed within a week of being put into place.

The Kuranda is a good 6 months old now, and doesn't have a scratch on it. And Gilmour loves it.

If I went with a Kuranda, where is the best place to order? Through an online retailer? Do brick & mortar stores sell them? What should I expect to pay?

I stopped by Sam's Club again last night. The beds are largely picked over and would be okay for a puppy but too small for a full grown adult.

I have a couple Orvis beds which are so snuggly, but for cleaning ease and durability and price, mammoth beds are what's in virtually every room of my home!

We have an llbean dog bed that Eleanor loves. The nice thing about them is if you need to replace one part but not the other, they do sell the cover separate from the bed insert. I don't know if the guarantee covers chewing, but Orvis has one that does.

Hmm, Ranger must be weird - he didn't like his costco bed. Are you guys talking about the round ones, with the cedar chips in them? I found it went all lumpy and when Ranger would sleep on it during the night, he'd wake up really sore and stiff. He'd be walking up the stairs like he was 10 yrs older than he is.

Ranger's new favourite bed (even better than sleeping on MY bed, if you can believe it) is a Great Choice brand bed, with 3 high sides and one lower side. It's super plush on the inside AND the outside, and it seems to be the right amount of supportive so he can curl up into a ball, but also stretch out legs over the side without it being uncomfortable. Here's a pic of him loving his bed!

Golden Retriever LL Bean Bed

On the farm we have had three golden retrievers over my lifetime and have tried many beds. The LL Bean Premium Dog Bed Set Rectangular is by far the best. My golden's always liked to lay on these and sometimes hang their heads off the beds. As older goldens 9-12, they became more sensitive to heat, generally panted more and spent most of the day and night sleeping. They prefer the cold floor, laying under the main house door, or even on an enclosed porch at 35 degrees for hours. All of our older golden's ended up on these beds. They are very durable and are easy to clean. Our latest golden is 11 and he had started having seizures before we had him fully diagnosed. The clean up from the urination and defecation was simple.

I have used expensive memory foam beds(even from LL Bean) and also the beds where the dog lays on a suspended canvas. They laid on these, but all my dogs preferred the LL Bean with the regular mattress.

Presently we own three of these beds, one in a bedroom, one in the living room and one on the porch. Teddy is a happy old timer.
My only other advice is to let any large breed dog get passed his chewing phase before introducing a bed. Luckily, goldens are not on the fanatical side of chewing things up!
