Backpack recommendations needed

Now that Gromit is over a year old I'd like to start slowly introducing him to a backpack. My goal is eventually going on day hikes and maybe the occasional 1 or 2 night backpacking trip. I want something comfortable for him to wear and big enough to carry his water and food but I don't want to break the bank. Are any of you hikers? What do your trail dogs use?

I don't know what you consider "breaking the bank" but I favor Ruffwear products. We have their life jackets

I was actually looking at the approach pack earlier. I guess because it's his first pack I'd like to stay under $100 I can always upgrade later if I decide he needs something bigger.

We have the Ruffwear Approach pack. I noticed that they came out with a newer version since I bought it two years ago. I really like the pack, and it keeps the weight over the dogs shoulders, which is very important. I have never put more than a couple of half liter water bottles in it, but Hazel likes to wear it when we go hiking.

Sunfire's To Live Is To Fly "Hazel", Cookie (RIP), Jasmine (Lab mix), Poppy & Marmalade (The Cats)
