Rejuvenating this thread. Oscar was a wreak last night from the storms. He started pacing when there was only the hint of lightning in the distance. We, of course, were up most of the night trying to help him out. So, I've ordered a Thundershirt and will let you know how it goes. At the very least I suspect he will look quite handsome in it!

It is so hard watching them go through that panic and I think it creates a cycle that just keeps getting worse. My Tawny really went into full panic mode. We tried Xanax and then tranquilizers but the timing is tricky. I hated to drug her so I would wait until I was sure it was going to storm, but then it would be too late. The Thundershirt took the edge off. She went from frantically climbing on us, digging in the carpet, trying to squeeze behind the toilet, to just panting and shaking. I hope it helps Oscar.

He ended up in the basement last night and that seemed to help but he kept trying to squeeze himself into tiny spaces. It is difficult to watch particularly when no amount of comforting seems to make a difference. We just let him roam around and kept him company. We've used rescue remedy in the past with some effectiveness but this time it made no difference. I'll keep you posted on the vest. He doesn't mind wearing his reflective vest during hunting season so perhaps he will accept this one, as well. Thanks for the concern!
