sagging eyes

I have a 4 month old golden retriever whos eyes began sagging on the lower lids. Vet recommended surgury in the future but not sure if this is necessary considering he is still a growing puppy?? Any comments or suggestions

Could you post a photo? I'd be interested in seeing just how severe the sagging is.

Yup - I remember that there was a recent thread on sagging eyes. If I was a really good member I would pull that thread up and post the link

I'm thinking that if your vet suggested surgery in the future that he/she might be thinking of letting your puppy grow a bit more and see if it's still necessary. I know my vet has actually mentioned to me that this is not an uncommon thing with goldens. He also suggested that it can be common for the goldens eyelashes to curl under the eye as well???

Now... this is new to me and something I have no experience with, but my vet also suggested that the surgery is fairly easy going...I bow to the experience of other members on this topic though.

It is called ectropion when the lids sag or roll out. It is entirely possible for the puppy to "grow" into as his head grows and changes. Just keep an eye on it and make sure seeds and grass and stuff doesn't accumulate there.

If he doesn't grow out of it, surgery may be required.

What does the breeder say? He or she may have seen it the line before, as it does tend to be hereditary.
