Smile Hello from Tennessee

Hello. I have joined this forum to learn more about Retrievers. My husband and I are pretty well versed with Dalmatians and Dobermans, but GR's are new to us. We "rescued" a purebred GR papered pup recently from a desperate pregnant woman who was about to be evicted for having a pet at her apartment. She went and bought him from a breeder on a whim knowing that her apartment complex forbid pets. She was selling him and had some offers from other people that I didn't feel were qualified or stable people to own a pup. We paid her for the dog and will be taking our time to find him a loving home. I have had Dalmatians for many years and knew what happens when people buy dogs on whims. We decided to prevent this with this pup. He is a delight and if we didn't have a Dobie pup on the way next month, we would keep him.

Anyway, nice to be here and I will be reading up on the breed thanks to this forum.

hello & welcome! so great of you to save this poor baby, sadly I fear you will fall in love & end up keeping him! They are amazing dogs & having grown up with a pair of Dals myself know that you obviously are active people, perfect for an ever-loving golden boy! (I don't think our Dals ever sat still in 9 years, they were always moving!)

Welcome. I am suprised the pregnant woman didnt contact the breeder to take him back. Mind you what breeder sells a dog to someone who lives in an apartment that cant have dogs!!
Anyway you have done a great job of rescuing this pup & you may fall in love with him lol. If not you might find some willing family on here to adopt him.

Thanks everyone. I will post photos... thanks for asking! You know, if I weren't such a stickler about people who take on "more than they can chew" so-to-speak, I would keep him, but every dog I have had in my adult life has been planned and well thought out. We did so much research to find a Doberman (childhood breed of mine) and there's no way to practically say I can handle my beloved 6 year old Dal (had since a pup), a Golden pup and the soon-coming baby Dobie. It irritates me beyond belief when people a) breed irresponsibly and b) get dogs on whims and then easily offer them to anyone who comes along with the money. We paid more than we probably should have for the Golden, but she was more concerned with the money than a good home for him and I didn't want to see him mistreated. he is such a baaaabe. My question is... why in the world did a breeder sell this young, pregnant girl and her boyfriend a pup when she knew they lived in an apartment?! Oh well. The best thing is he is safe now and I will find a good home for him. He truly is adorable and again, I would keep him, but we plan to start a family in the next year and have this Dobie on the way on Easter weekend. Thanks for welcoming me. I will go post photos now.
