Hello...I'm a new golden puppy owner from Massachusetts! Mollie is now 13 weeks and just a joy. Our first golden baby, Kobi, died last May from cancer at age 9. We are thrilled to have another golden in our house as it has felt so empty without Kobi around. We have two kids, ages 4 and 2, who are learning to "live" with a puppy around. Kobi was so mellow and gentle around the kids that it is a big adjustment for them :)

Mollie is doing great! She is almost fully housetrained and we are using the crate at night and during the day when she is not supervised. She knows sit, down, and stay already which is great.

I had a couple of questions about skin issues. Mollie is currently being treated for pyoderma with antibiotics. We noticed that she started getting pimple-like bumps on her belly that were full of pus and then would scab over. Thankfully that is getting better! The other issue we have is with severe dandruff. I have searched the forums and read almost every post about this issue. At first the vet thought it was walking dandruff and we were bathing her with a pyrethrin shampoo. Unfortunately that only seemed to make her dandruff worse. We took her in to the vet yesterday for a routine check-up and she now has suggested using either AlphaKeri bath oil or skin so soft bath oil after shampooing and to not rinse it off. Has anyone used this with success? Any side effects or issues I should know about? Mollie is on a high quality food, Wellness Puppy, and we are giving her fish oil every day.

Thanks in advance for all the help! This forum is amazing! I will be sure to post pics soon. I can't believe how fast they grow. She was only 15lbs at 9 weeks and is now 23.5lbs :wavey:

Welcome!!!

Hi :wavey: and welcome! I'm from MA, also...just outside of Worcester. My first GR passed away May of '05. It seemed very "goldenless" around here with no goofy golden so now I have 3--2 males and 1 female (who is named after my 1st golden) !!!

As for the questions about the dandruff...have you tried using salmon oil in her food? This works wonders on dry, winter skin. Another thing you might check is to see if there is any corn in Mollie's food. My 1st golden suffered from allergies her whole life and it wasn't until after she had passed away that I found out about the problems that corn can cause in goldens.

It's great to have you join us but we require lots and lots of pictures of puppies on this forum...hahahaha :D

Welcome to the board! I am from Franklin, MA and have a 14 month old, Brady. My first golden.

My kids, also had to go through the adjustment of a puppy, they were used to having three mellow senior dogs. They now treat him like their baby brother, they actually argue and fight with him one minute, and
are giving hugs and kisses the next.

As for the pyoderma, the first thing I would do is put her on a high quality food (canidae, wellness, etc.) and keep an eye on it, because there might be an underlying cause. Also, these things sometimes take a few rounds of treatment to completely clear up.

First off, welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us. When we rescued our springer last year, he had (has..... in remission) severe auto-immune issues (hemolytic anemia ). Along with that, he had really bad skin infections. We started bathing him every 3-4 days with the Eqyss Mciro-Tek shampoo and it helped IMMENSELY. You might think about it.... their site is www.eqyss.com BTW, you can dilute the shampoo down alot.

Welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see pictures of Molly, sounds like she is doing good for 13 weeks. I also live in MA. We have Boomer who is almost 7 months old now. Sorry for your loss of Kobi, we lost our first golden Daisy to cancer also. Boomer also eats wellness and has done really well on it, ate the puppy food, we have switched him to adult food now. Welcome again.

Hello and welcome!!! I am now in NJ, but lived in MA for 9 years, in the same town that Goldn'Chocolate is from! I'm sorry I don't have any help on the pyoderma issue, but I'm sure you will get plenty of responses. (hint: the more cute pictures you post, the more responses you'll get!;)) Just kidding! But we'll need some pics soon, while she's still a fluffball. In fact, I'm sure fluffballness is already giving way to gangly teenage-dom so hurry!!:D (of course that is just a joke, too, because we love 'em at any age!)
