Hi from Halifax

We were looking for advise for a timid Golden and found exactly what we needed in this forum - thanks a lot!

We're new to Golden ownership - actually to dog ownership in general - but myself, my husband and our 11 yr old son ( and even Cats Sundin, our year-old puss) have fallen head over heels in love with Jake, a big beautiful 'red' Golden. Jake is 6 months old this month and we're discovering every day what a character he is. We got Jake at 6 weeks and we're told we won the doggy lottery with him. The only chewing he's ever done is on his toys, the only interest in shoes he has are the insoles of a pair of old boots he keeps pulling them out and carrying them around the house when we're not home, and at 4 months he was fully house trained. He now has quite a repertoire of tricks he'll perform (sometimes even without the promise of a treat) and he starts obedience training next week - we're looking forward to seeing what he's capable of.

I do have one question for the Golden owners of winter climates. Is it just Jake, or do all Goldens go nuts for snow? We got him in August, and I would take him in back of the rink where my son was playing hockey, and Jake would go wild rolling and digging in the zamboni ice/snow - he'd rather play in that snow than at the beach near the arena. Now that winter is upon us - we're hard pressed to get him to come inside when it's snowing out - he's too busy digging snow tunnels with his nose.

Here's the link to 2 vids of Jake in action (they have sound)...

Welcome to the forum. Being here in Texas, I'm no help as far as winter weather. Your videos are precious and Jake is a doll. I'm sure alot of our northern members will give you lots of feedback as to the snow. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy our discussions ..... there are alot of really nice, knowledgeable people here.

Welcome to you and Jake,
Love the videos and the music. Both are just perfect. Good to see Jake and Sundin have become friends. I am still working on that with my 5 mo puppy Bama. He loves to pick them up by their tail or head. Needless to say they dont like that. LOL
I have a big giant white bear that Bama drags around the house like Jakes. Luckily he hasnt met his end like Earl bear has. But Bama did pull the ribbon off of him, so it might be his future.
Glad you found us and we are able to help you. You have started out on the right foot by posting videos. Now we just need daily update pictures (joking). Just jump in and post away. We love all stories.
As you look at alot of the threads and pictures you will see that Goldens love snow as much or more than the beach. It just makes me laugh over their antics. I live in Florida also but have taken Beau to Iowa and he loved the snow and we couldnt keep him out of it. Even when it was -10 degrees. Need the snow shots now.

Welcome to the forum. Jake is a cutie. Looks like that sparring with the kitty as a pup paid off when that wild polar bear invaded your home. Jake really saved your family from certain death that day. Sorry about all the polar bear guts on your floor.

Your Jake is not alone in his love of the snow. Oakly loves the stuff until it gets so deep he has to do the leaping thing to make any headway. Look forward to lots more pictures of Jake.

Welcome! I wish we had snow closer by to see how the puppy reacts. Maybe a trip to the mountains this winter is in order! Very cute pup you have there!

Mine love snow

Here are My two dancing in the snow. They will lay in it and chew on each other. Then they run around and wrestle.
