New Golden owner from Oregon - PICTURE ADDED!

Hello all,

My name is Katharine and I am a SAHM of 3. My husband and I had decided to get an older rescue Golden in February when my youngest turned two. Life had other plans for us.

This past weekend, an acquaintance from work called my husband and told him there was a one year old Golden that was going to go to the pound if it couldn't find a home ASAP. I contacted a local rescue organization who said they couldn't get him for a couple of weeks. We discussed it and drove up to meet him on New Year's Day. He is a wonderful dog. He has been through three or four owners in a year, poor thing, but has no issues that we can tell. He knows all of the basic commands, learns extremely quickly (got the command "Watch me" within a few tries), is completely housetrained and great with the kids and our cats. He is very overweight as his previous owner had him cooped up in a hallway for the past two months (with NO walks at all) but we are slowly working on it.

I am so excited to find such a wealth of information on this site. I'm sure I will be asking a lot of questions so please bear with me. It has been about 10 years since I had a Golden (my childhood dog). Can't wait to get to know you all!

Welcome to the forum! That is a wonderful story, I am so happy for you and your family! What is the puppie's name, did I miss it? How are the kids liking life with doggie?

Still crazy after all these years.

Here is a picture!

It is just after we first brought him home (please excuse the fact that is is a bad picture and he is NOT allowed on the furniture).

Welcome to our forum. What a beautiful dog you now have. How could someone leave a dog confined to a hallway? Unbelievable! Thankfully he has found his way to your family.
What part of Oregon are you from? My mother was born in Astoria and my parents met in Portland where my father was in school. My other relatives live in Eugene, Yachats and Waldport.

The name has two meanings for me. I have a 95 Eclipse that was my "before" car that I love, love, love! "Before" meaning before the minivan that I had to get to cart around 2 huge carseats and a very large 12 yo son. My husband uses it for a commuter car now, although it is all tricked out.....

In addition, my first son was born in 1995, and he eclipsed everything in my world!

That is too funny about the mini van, becuase we are thinking about trading in my car (the 02) for an SUV just so we can fit the dog! How our lives change

Oh, and Welcome to the foum by the way!
