Stuart first time to the Ocean. He did not know lakes can get that big. We were unable to swim or hang out on the beach this time around. There was a very big Hurricane headed our way, so we pack up camp and drove back to the mountains. He did get to go on a boat ride on Cape Fear river, and hangout down town with us. He got a lot attention and was very good with small children.

He found a girl friend at the dog run in the camp ground. They are the same age, and wanted to play all the time. He did very good with other dogs.

Our next camping trip is at the end of this month. We will go back to Wilmington NC next May for a week. I found a nice campground with an Air Condition Kennel for when Stuart can not tag along. Between now and next year I will be working on Stuarts boating skills, I plan on taking him sailing with me on the intercoastal.

I can't believe all of our pups are about to turn 1!! Here is Barkley right at 11 months. He weight 66.4 lbs at the vet (follow up check up to his bladder infection from July, all's well) and our senior Hunter was 66.8 lbs! They look *so* different!! I need to get more photos of them together, my gut tells me we don't have much longer with Hunter (he's almost a year into the degenerative myelopathy diagnosis, and mobility is getting progressively harder, but he's still going, our sweet trouper).

B has stayed fairly light in color (we thought he'd darken up a bit like his ears but hasn't, he's a cutie either way) and hasn't seemed to get his double-coat yet, although it's just starting to get cool around here (40s at night), so it might show up soon. He's shedding like a beast! Still a doll, friendly with most people but some people he just doesn't like, we can't figure it out. We took a break from formal training classes for the heat of the summer, but planning on starting up again this month; I'd love to get his CGC, but not sure I'm a good enough trainer for it. He's snuggled up next to me on the couch; the "no dogs on the couch" rule is totally out the window.

I hope everyone had a great summer! Happy Birthday to all the pups!!

ps
my photo posted straight - woohoo!!!

Barkley is so handsome! It is hard to believe almost a year has gone by! I have a friend at work who is getting a new puppy in November and we were talking about the early days with a puppy. I loved it but am not ready to do that again!
Maggie weighs about 52 lbs. I took her to the groomer, big mistake. They cut off all of her beautiful feathers I know they will grow back. Needless to say, I ordered a grooming table and will be learning to do everything myself.
We are still in classes once a week. She is learning but not super consistent with things. She is too distracted with wanting to go and see everyone she meets. We really want to get her CGC also so we can visit the nursing home. I am sad that our cruise ship season is over and we won't be able to walk the docks until next year.
My son had his senior pictures and the photographer wanted Maggie in for one picture. She has been the best dog and we couldn't love her more!

What a lovebug! Here's my Brock. We're getting ready for a big blow-out birthday (10/22) celebration at daycare.

Maggie is beautiful!! The groomer we used for Hunter (in the past; he's too weak to stand to be groomed, so I groom him as best I can at home) only trimmed his feathers to look neat, not completely off; that is so weird! Is that a show-standard thing? She has a darling face, and your son is very handsome too. My son just started 7th grade; it feels like we just brought him home last week!

Good luck to your friend with the puppy coming home in November, I'm sure you'll have good tips for them on raising a puppy in the winter, lol!!

Brock is very handsome too! October 2018 was clearly an excellent vintage for golden retrievers

Brock is beautiful as well. Yes, October 2018 was a great year!!
MushyB, yes I can't believe my youngest is 18. I am not looking forward to the empty nest. Enter Maggie into the picture

I think this groomer thought she was giving a show groom but I know they are not supposed to remove the feathering from the front legs. On a good note, I got my grooming table and Maggie does great on it! She usually bites the brush and squirms on the floor. I put her on the table and she stood still while I brushed her

We are waiting for snow to hit. She had snow last year but this year she can really romp around in it!!

Sweet Maggie Mae is 1 year old today! What a great year it has been. She is the sweetest thing and we are so blessed to have her. She ran and played hard today on the trails and enjoyed some yummy treats. Here she is in her favorite chair with her pile of socks, with her best little buddy Kip, and "hiding" in her bed. She unzips it and climbs inside!! Such fun times with her, I can't wait to see what next year brings!
