There you go, very well said.

I think your Cash is a very handsome young golden, he will become even more handsome with time. I wonder what people's comments will be then.

We have been asked if Amber is a yellow/golden lab, probably because we have had labs for so long before her. But this thread makes me wonder about some dogs that I have seen in the media. Is Duke [Bush Beans dog] a golden redhead or an Irish setter? How about Brinkley in You've Got Mail? It seems like there are a lot of golden puppies on TV, but some of them may be yellow labs -- like the adorable little tyke in the tissue commercials. And I think the LL Bean catalogs have goldens, but puppies of both breeds can look a lot alike.

if I say I don't know breed, he's just my Craiglist dog...people try to convince my he can't be anything but 100% pure Golden.
If I say he's a Golden..people say they see Setter, Lab, Greyhound, Collie etc, etc in him.

I once had a guy ask me if my Shalva was a flat HEADED retriever and I just looked at him and said yes.... she can be a flat head sometimes.

I have english lines, two of whom are cream and I get people asking all the time what kind of dog they are. Honestly its because they look like goldens but the coloring throws them off.... its ok I usually just say they are goldens and then it becomes a time for a little education.

I have this aunt that the entire family hates and she asked me "So what kind of mix is she?" and I said "She's not, she's a Golden Retriever." and she said (astonished) "Oh! You mean she's a purebred? Like you got her from a breeder?!" I think it was partly because she didn't realize Gracie was still a puppy and thought she was full grown because she said "Oh, so she must be young. She's going to be big isn't she!"
And one time, when Gracie was really little, we told this guy at Petsmart that she was a "miniature Golden Retriever". He believed it for a second and then realized we were messing with him.

Duke is DEFINITELY a Golden. So is Brinkley. And most of the commercial puppies are Goldens also, too fluffy to be Labs.

We've been answering that question for 2 years to the day, (picked up Runner at 8.5 weeks old on father's day 2 years ago). Her hair and feathers have fully filled in now and tho she is still pretty light colored I don't think there should me much doubt what she is. Nonetheless, still get the question almost every day. I've just learned to let it go, especially since almost everyone also comments on how beautiful she is. I thank them for the beautiful comment and only gently correct them about the breed if they persist.

When Morgan was a pup she was very fit with short hair and a long body. On more then one occasion strangers would ask if she was a greyhound, which she totally was not. People are crazy when it comes to guessing breeds. No one says that about her anymore .
