I was just wondering if those of you with adult dogs could let me know how much your puppies weighed when you brought them home. Dakota weighs 9 lbs at 8 weeks old. her mom weighed about 65 pounds and her dad was 60 pounds so I assume she will be about 55-60. She seems so tiny for 8 weeks old and was the "runt" so I'm wondering....If any of you can remember what your 8 week old weighed and how much they weigh now, I would love to hear it.
Jacks weighed 12 lbs at his first check up. I think he was 9 weeks at the time though.
But you can't really go by their puppy weights to gauge how big they will be, even if they are the "runts" of the litter. Go by the size of the parents.
Jacks was the FATTEST puppy we ever had and everyone gasped at the size of his feet and his "saddlebags". Lol. He is a standard 24" golden though. If I remember the size of his parents, his mom was a little thing. Jacks looks like and is the same size as his dad though.
I just asked my vet this today...he said even though the pup is small it has no impact on what size they will be when grown. That is good for both of us...I am so anxious to see her get bigger....
That is good to know that you can't predict adult size by puppy size. Dakota is tiny, it seems, in comparison to some of the other puppies so I was just curious since her mom was on the larger size and dad was on the smaller size. I don't really care how big or small she is, just more curious since she is tiny now.
Darby was small with a big head. He grew up to be large with a big head. He was a very finicky eater as a pup and can still be at times as an adult but you would never know it to look at him. He is a nice lean 92 pounds. I don't think birth/puppy weight is a good indicator of size. Look at mom and dad and start there.
