Need foster home for 10yr Black Lab/Possible end of life situation

Was just contacted by my local animal shelter about a 10yr old Black Lab which has been removed from the owners home who wanted to do a PTS. He needs a perhaps temporary foster home as he does have "medical issues". Fatty tumors, an eye problem, and a limp. He's not in pain, not feeling rotten, is playfull, likes car rides and the tail wags.

Any Black Lab foster/rescue links ?

I can transport as early at this weekend to almost anywhere within 3 hours of North Jersey.

Pictures and more info to follow.

Perhaps we can make his last years, "golden" years or months whatever it may be.

I hope you can find a loving forever home for him. Have you tried posting on the lab board?

More of the story.....

Dusty was first brought to the attention of animal control when a passer by called in that on the side of a main road here in Wayne, on a day when it was almost 90 degrees, there was a black dog, in a crate, on the side of the road with a "for sale" sign on it.
Upon investigation and removal from his "owners" it was discovered that "Dusty" does have some health issues. He does have a rather large fatty tumor on his chest, his hearing isn't all that great, one eye appears to be swollen, his teeth need a good cleaning, and it also appears his right front leg has had some type of injury that hasn't healed properly.
The "owners" actually want him back from the shelter so they can do euthanize him.
Go figure..........
Anyway this poor guy will be seeing the vet tomorrow to see what can be done for him.
So if anyone can cross post to a lab forum they belong to for a rescue or foster home let me know. As I mentioned in my first posting, I can transport within NJ, Ct, Del, and a good part of Pa & NY.

Here's a couple shots of Dusty to pass on.

Some people......
Poor old boy deserves a GOOD home unlike what he had before.
I'll contact everyone I know and see if anyone can take him.
Dusty's health issues don't seem all that bad. Most seem to be old ageitis with some lack of care thrown in.

SORRY I JUST saw your msg. to me now as I was at work all day.
I can post him on Lab Ret. Forum if ggd hasn't already.
Can I have them contact you?

Is the poor boy in the shelter now?
Why does he only need a temp foster home? Does he have somewhere to go after that?

I will also email to some Lab Friends I have.

Kim Sellers who is a Lab Person and lives in PA and going to try emlg a few local rescues and I asked to post her to post him on Lab Ret. Forum as I haven't been a regular at all on there for at least a year and when I tried posting it won't let me!!

From a previous email so all can see........

Just got back from visiting him and he looks so much better.
Tail was wagging and we took him out in the yard for a good combing and cookies.
The shelter will be taking the previous owner to court in Sept or Oct.

How long will the shelter keep him?
Do they have to keep Dusty because I'm assuming they're taking the owners to court for cruelty?
To be honest, I think his best chance is to try to find someone to adopt him.
Have you contacted any rescues in New Jersey, especially Senior Rescue and can he walk alright? You mentioned his leg was broken long ago.

Try some of these:

Eleventh Hour is a good one.

Can you tell Bill how to contact them - i don't have the info.
The biggest problem always is find a foster for 2 wks. or pay boarding until the rescue can take him.

Bill: Does he need to have the leg walked on can he walk on it.

Have you heard from any of the rescues that Kim Sellers emld?
Maybe they won't reply until tomorrow.
Will the shelter release him? How long does he have before PTS?
Try emlg. some rescues in and around Wayne NJ and try labs4rescue and Rudy's like Kimm suggested.

Hey-Hey....
Looks like TheLastResort Rescue in West Milford, NJ will be accepting him.
Just have to finalize things with the shelter since this IS going to court.
An xray of his leg WILL be done and shown as evidence of abuse......
Can't wait to nail these loosers.

Now, as soon as Dusty gets taken care of there will be Ranger, who looks like an "English Cream Golden/ Pyrenese mix who is afraid of men.
Can't imagine WHY a dog should be afraid of men....

How did Last resort here about him?

As far as the Great Pyr/Golden Mix can you post in another thread his petfinder link, info on him etc. and then Google Great Pyrenees Rescues
and go to www.grca-nrc.org for the Golden Ret. rescues and start emailing or calling!!!!!!
