Good? Bad? Or niether. I bought one and it looked like it was actually cutting his coat instead of getting out the undercoat. I am curious to see what other owners think.

I have one and I LOVE it.. After my girls go swimming or have a bath they shed like crazy for a good week.. If I use the furminator on them after they dry it cuts down on the shed big time.. Once they start blowing their winter coat and you get all the fluffy hair falling out in chunks, it does a great job on that! I brushed both the girls the other day and you can feel that they dont have their thick anymore.. Just their nice summer one!

but I have heard that you should only use this brush once every so often! cause it can damage the coat!

We have one also and like it. As someone else said, you use it only once in awhile (we use it a couple of times a month) so it doesn't damage the coat. Also, if you hold it properly and use minimal pressure, that's also supposed to minimize damage to the coat. At first I was afraid it was cutting the guard hairs too, so I closely examined the fur it removed and it was just undercoat. the guard hairs were fine.

We love ours... It is not ment to be used as an everday brush as it can damage their coat if used to often. I use ours on Ripley once every week or two. It keeps the hair down in the house and Jeep. If used correctly it can cut their undercoat down alot which will keep them much cooler in the summer months.

I don't use the furminator on my goldens because I have read that it will cut their coats. But I do use it on my lab and man am I glad I have it for her!
I don't use one for the same reason but also found that it did wonders on my lab. I ended up giving it to my daughter because it worked wonders on her cat. Now I am using a Mars Coat King and find that works better, along with an undercoat rake and a stainless steel comb that the vet gave me.
Edited to add: I bought mine from Ebay and it was a lot cheaper than most other places.

I kind of made fun of the picture on the front of the pack, thinking yah ok there's no way all that furs going to come out....when i used it for the first time, i couldn't beleive it! Love ours, and Boone gets it used on him once / week or so.....
I would recommend it for sure...
