Sorry I ever doubted any of you... LOL.

You all know I have been concerned about Layla being so small... and she is still very petite.

In the last two weeks I have seen 4 what we are lovingly calling "midget goldens". I guess Layla is just one of those pocket pets LOL.
She looks like the perfect golden, nicely proportioned... just very compact... doesn't even come up to my knees.

It is taking some getting used to for us... we always got the really big dogs, except for Wolfie. I still think she has rocks in her head, cause I don't see where the 50 lbs comes from. She is much smaller than our Wolfie was (husky mix)..and Wolfie was about 46 lbs.

So the little ones really do exist LOL.

Glad to hear that you have been reassured :) I always say it is better to be on the "small/slim" side rather than the "big/fat" side ;)

Smaller dog = less strain on the heart, less pressure on the joints...nothing to worry about IMO!!

Your post made me curious, so I googled miniature Golden Retrievers and came up with some interesting info. The consensus seems to be that there isn't a specific mini Golden breed (I figured that much), but some breeders are combining Goldens with smaller dogs to come up with Golden-like mixes.

Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to owning a smaller version of a Golden, especially if it had the lovely disposition of the breed. Most mutts are great anyway, and when you throw a Golden into the mix, it would probably be a real winner.

Most Goldens think they're lap dogs anyway. How about one that could actually sit in your lap comfortably? Cool!

Layla may be just on the small side, as far as Goldens go. My own Peaches was small, too--meaning "just right" for our family!

How tall is she at the shoulders?

It is really hard to measure her, she is afraid of the yard stick LOL. I am guesstimating that she is about 19 inches. She really is very petite... I know she is only 7.5 months old, but she doesn't seem to be doing any more growing the last month or so. She is very slim built... and short, but in perfect proportions. She was about 48 lbs. when I took her to the vet a couple of weeks ago to get heartworm meds... and really I swear there must be rocks in her head, cause she looks more like about 30 lbs. My parents border collie weighs 55 lbs, and he is huge compared to Layla.

It's ok, we love her tons anyway... she is just so petite, it's kind of cute...but scary when it comes to taking on her big brother the moose.

I started a new training class last night with a trainer that we've used before. She commented on the fact that she's always surprised when she sees Rookie because she's used to seeing such big goldens. And Rookie's not all that petite, just slightly on the small side of the standard.

I was pretty convinced my petite boy was done growing at 7 months, but he's surprised me with a couple of growth spurts since then. He just turned a year and is probably about 21 inches and just a little over 40 pounds (but needs to put on a little weight).

She's still got time to grow. :D

Sasha has always been small and is still very small, compared to my other goldens, at 2 years of age. Some people think that she is still a pup. I like her petite size. Jack, on the other hand, is really big and has a huge "bear head". I like his size, too. :D
