Golden that Hates Water

Hi all, we have an 11 month old golden who hates water. Puddles, rivers, lakes, the hose anything and we find it so strange as our previous golden loved getting wet and dirty. He’s such a clean golden and avoids water and dirt at all costs.

Was wondering if anyone has a golden similar to ours and hates water and we think it’s so weird for such a goofy breed!

I have friends with Goldens that do not like water, it's not that uncommon really.
While it certainly is more common for a Golden to love water-swimming, etc., not all do.

When she was 11 months old, I tried to lure our puppy into a lake by tossing a stick. She went after it and panicked. I now realize that I should have introduced her to water by wading in with her. We plug the drain in the bathtub so she gets used to having her feet wet. She is very curious about the critters in our pond so she may go in by herself someday. Our past three Goldens loved to swim.

Aidan is 6mo and getting more courageous going into the water. He seems to love it, but is still a little weary about going over his head when fetching a toy. Thankfully we have another dog around that will go get the toy for us when Aidan doesnít retrieve it!

Hi

My golden is now 7 years old and we got her when she was 7 months old. When we first got it she would not go near the water. we go to a cottage that is right on a river. Till she was about 4 she would not go anywhere near it she would not even get her feet wet. Now this year she cant get enough of it. Takes time I guess

regards

Don

Mine is 13 months. And her first time swimming you wouldíve thought we threw her off a boat without any assistance. She cried. And cried. And now she cries when I donít throw the bumper fast enough. She didnít go swimming until a month ago too. We swim at a dock diving facility and her third swim she ditched the life vest and is as happy as can be.

Triton goes nuts over water, Caesar went nuts over water, and Jenni was just OK with water. Just depends on the personality really.

Caesar my forever friend and Jenni my beautiful girlfriend... Gone, but never to be forgotten.

Arthur, who just turned a year old, has a fear of getting in water but once he's in the water he will swim like a fish and loves it. We are careful to ease him into it and not to force him to do too much too quickly. I'm fairly confident that after a couple more trips to the water we won't be able to keep him out.

I have an 8 year old who has never liked water. Not only no swimming, but no baby pool, no hose play, no tub. My old dog tried his darndest to convince her it was fun, but the minute her feet began to leave bottom it was a "no go." We finally took her to "swim lessons" at a local dog rehab pool just to make sure she knew HOW to swim if she ever fell in accidently. Only once did she enter the pool voluntarily (and that's because we brought my other dog who was playing with HER toy).
