Loose leash training not going so well.
With all the snow we had, we didn't get to do much leash training. Now it was just beautiful the last week or so, BUT the dang sidewalks are a hazzard still! With the melt and freeze, we have areas in my neighbourhood just covered in ice. Even part of the front of our sidewalk is covered. We keep working on it, but then the huge snowhills we've had to make on our lawn starts melting, then it gets cold enough to freeze and once again we have ice on the sidewalk. It's like this all over my neighbourhood.
Needless to say, walking a pup who pulls and goes this way and that way on the leash is a dangerous endeavour.
She hasn't had much time outside on the leash so everything is new and exciting to her. We tried the leash pops, but she doesn't care. We are probably way too gentle on the pops, but hey, we're only wanting to use them as a reminder to pay attention, not to hurt her. When she did walk loosely, she was praised, but then she still ignored us because it's all so FUN to be walking outside of her fenced yard for once. Those cars, and people and smells are so fulfilling to the senses!
I wish we were allowed to go to the park and schoolyards with her but alas, it's against the law to bring dogs there in our City. I feel it would have fulfilled her need to be outside the yard and probably would have allowed us to get her attention a little more.
Can't wait until spring... which COULD happen in May, but not holding my breath.
