Golden puking after drinking water.

Hello! My name is Julie and this is my first post! I have a 5 month old Golden named Lily. Twice today she has puked right after drinking a bowl full of water. No food comes up just water. She is having normal bathroom breaks, eating fine and is acting normal. Any ideas what could be causing this? TIA!!

Welcome to the forum. I'm not really sure of the reason for not being able to keep water down other than possibly drinking too much too fast. You might try not filling the bowl so full and add water more frequently. Good luck to you.

I agree with the drinking too fast. I had a cat that used to do this same thing. As long as she is acting normally otherwise, she should be fine. However, if it continues, I would get in touch with the vet.

if she continues vomiting tomorrow, I'd call my vet. Sounds like she is drinking too much at one time.

If the water is too cold it could cause it as well. Some dogs have sensitive tummies and cold water causes the muscles to constrict and throw it back up(Ice can cause this as well in some dogs).

Thank you for the quick replies!! I think it might be from drinking fast too. Everytime I give her water she always downs the whole bowl really fast! I will try giving her smaller amounts at a time more frequently and see if it helps. Thanks for the advise!

Do you leave a bowl of water out for her? If not, leaving a fresh bowl out all the time for her for easy access might make her less inclined to down it all at once.
