The quik - please help

Hi Folks
Yesterday evening I was trimming Tucker's nails and I hit the quick on one of his nails on the back right foot. I have never felt so bad....I was in tears. Tucker didnt yelp or make any noise but I am sure it had to hurt.

Well it bled for the longest time and I put my quik medicine on it and it stopped. Then it started up again after 30 minutes so I put a towel on it and held pressure.

Well it has started to bleed again tonight -- I think its because he was playing around with his toys and it probably was rubbing on the carpet.

What should I do? I don't want him to be in pain and I am not sure if this should require a vet trip in the morning.

Jen

Just put a little more Quik Stop on it and he'll be fine! Sometimes I'll even clean it up and seal it off with a dab of nail glue to stop the bleeding.

I will never use Kwik Stop. That stuff hurts like he**! My friend was shaving her husband's head and nicked his scalp a little. It was really bleeding so the first thing she grabbed was the Kwik Stop. Let me just say that her husband is about 6'6" and at least 285 lbs. and definitely not a man to show hardly any emotion even when he's in pain, but when that Kwik Stop touched his scalp he started screaming like a little kid.

After the pain subsided a little, he grabbed it out of her hand and, as he was throwing it away in the garbage, he said, "You will NEVER use this on our dog again!"

Ever since then, I've used only flour or corn starch...both work great and won't cause the dog any more unnecessary pain.

That's interesting. I've never seen any type of visible pain response from my dogs with Kwik Stop... maybe it's a species variation?

Maybe...or it could be that the dog's nail area is so small, but...I'll never change my mind about Kwik Stop. I was there when it happened and he was really hurting. Flour works great, and that's what I will continue to use.
