Ok the dog park thing is very new to me, I've never had a dog that was Okay around other dogs but Riley is a star!

We went to our local dog park in Thousand Oaks, CA on Tuesday during the early afternoon, I have the luxury of working from home, so I was thinking about going again. Here's a link to their site if anyone nearby is interested, I'd love to set up playdates!

They clean the park from 8 to 9 am on Thursdays so It will be all clean for us! We just went on Tuesday...is it too soon to go again? I'm just so afraid of diseases and in my mind I think as long as she doesnt go everyday she will have those few days in between to fight off any diseases. She's had all her shots and is spayed.

I know me and my sis must look funny, eveyone else is like sitting down reading a book etc.. and me and her chase after Riley and never let her get more than 20 feet away from us :) Its a good workout though! Riley has been know to bolt off when shes scared or unsure but she really made me proud last Tuesday she stayed with us and if she strayed away she'd come over to us to check in every once in awhile. I think it's helping building her trust in us :)

So you guys think it's not to soon to go again? She had a blast, and I imagine people who live nearby go everyday, what do you guys think?

No way! Not too soon! If she enjoys it and she's otherwise healthy, go. You are a good mommy for paying attention to where she is. I find it hard to watch both my "kids" to make sure I pick up their poop and make sure no one is picking on them AND talk to others let alone read!

P.S. - I'd join you for a playdate with Ferg and Lily, but it would be about a 2 hour drive. :(

Yea that kind of worried me, a rowdy lab came up to Riley and mounted her and the owner just kind of kept walking by. Riley is very submissive and just layed there. My sister has no problem grabbing the other dogs off her (while going "SHH" "SHH" like Caesar). I like to go in the early monring/afternoon when everyone is at work. The main reason I like it is not necessiarly for the socialization with other dogs but its a great place to play ball and let her run free without worrying about her getting loose or hit by a car. I've been looking high and low for schools and athletic fields that we can get away with going to that are fenced in, but alot of them are very strict and don't like dogs there.

Ok we went! I'm going to post some of the pics later once I get them loaded. She had a great time but there was a little black chow mix that kept buggin her! I totally know now what you guys mean by the owners not paying attention or caring. The lady that owned him was on a bench reading not paying any attention to him. He RAN up to Riley and automatically she went to the ground in submission and then he starts humping her! She's so scared or something she doesn't even move. We pulled him off her and then he would keep like biting at her just playful, but you could tell his owner did not teach him manners because as my sister and I were trying to pull him off her kinda nipped at us! So needless to say we kinda avoided him :)

I was excited to hear from one of the other dog owners that they're building a new dog park in Simi Valley nearby the Simi Valley Mall, so I'm real excited to get to go to a new park once its opened.

Thanks for all the encouragment and pointers :)
