Worrisome Amount of Shedding?

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this. Oatmeal seems to be shedding away his undercoat??? If that even makes sense. The fur from around his bum area seems to be shedding from the underside...what seems to be the undercoat is coming out in clumps. It's not hard to pull away from him. It's like as if he's losing his first coat again?

Has anyone else experienced this or can let me know what's happening? I mean it is summer time...just not as hot this year. Hopefully I'm just too worried and it's just his coat changing for summer???

Thanks for any comments!!!

How old? Has he had surgery recently? They do go through periods where they blow coat by the bucketload.

He sounds like he's changing his coat. You should have seen Skye a couple of weeks ago - I could have stuffed a duvet with what I was combing out from his undercoat!

Do you have one of those 'rake' type combs, they're good for getting undercoat out. It's the way of working dogs, to have a very thick undercoat - just means you know plenty about it when they shed it!

I know the feeling - I brush mine frequently and all of a sudden the blow coat like crazy in chunks! Must be time to grow a winter coat again.... darn!

Hank just finished his major, yearly shed. Yes, there were tuffs sticking out and hair floating every where. I just brushed him everyday when outdoors trying to keep the hair tumbleweeds to a minimum!

I gave up on daily sweeping - I never got it all done with goldens in the house! But boy do I hate carpet - can't wait to get rid of all of it!! LOL!

It sounds like Oatmeal is blowing his coat - normal part of the cycle. But yes, a shockingly amazing amount of fur. Tesia only blew her coat a few times in her life, but it never had any relation to time of year. You will find that once it finishes, Oatmeal's coat will be very thin - I used to call Tee Bony Bum during those times. But the undercoat WILL come back - in plenty of time for winter.

Oatmeal's 2 and 3 months, no major surgeries or anything lately. He had his annual exam beginning of the month and it wasn't this bad. Didn't ask the vet nor did she see anything wrong!!! Said he was a healthy boy! =)

I knew he would shed. Just didn't think it would be this bad second time around!!! =) guess I was just being paranoid and this is normal!!! =)

Sounds like there will be lots of combing for me!

Thank you everyone for your input!!!

Ben is only just starting to lose his winter coat. He had a really lush coat this year. I'm hoping he gets his new coat in time for the cold weather.

The first year we had him, he really lost fur - to the point that his legs looked like they had been shaved. The vet said it was allergies and we gave him antihistamines for a while. The next spring, it didn't happen. He never completely lost his thicker fur. It may just have been that when he blows coat, he really blows coat.
