Maizy is 1 1/2 yrs. Recently she has begun to be a real nightmare to walk! First, at times she will randomly just be jumping up at us and being very mouthy with us, my husband more than myself. Secondly, she will walk for a little bit, then just plop down! There is NO getting her up. It takes forever to even get her around the block. She absolutely NEEDS her walks, but it is getting to the point were she is not getting them as regularly as she used too. I do not know what to do!!! Other than that, she is such a sweet girl, love her so much, but she needs a major intervention!

Cookie went through a phase of jumping up and down during walks too. I think she just got over excited, and didn't know how to handle it. Initially, I probably made things worse by not just ignoring this and instead trying to explain to her how a good dog should act. :)

I did a couple of things that worked better. One was to just step on the leash when she got jumpy, turn my back to her and wait her out. Once she finally calmed down, the walk would resume.

The other thing I did was to teach her how to play tug, which would help to teach her how to go from an excited state of mind back to a relaxed state of mind.

Also, some more age will help too. Cookie hasn't done this in such a long time, and she just turned 3.
