"Superman Pose"

I'm just curious: Do any of you have goldens who lie in what we in our household call "the Superman pose"? You know, belly flat with hind legs stretched out behind? I know puppies do this; they're still very flexible. But my 3 1/2 year old golden still does this and likely will his whole life through, I'm guessing.

A sign of good hips maybe? Probably? Any thoughts on this? Again, I'm just curious. I've seen many smaller breeds lie down like this, but rarely I've seen goldens, or any of those in large breed groups, do this. I think I've seen one other do this in the kennel I work at.

Lol! Awesome. So it's not really as unusual as I thought it is. Still, a good sign that they have good hips? Bailey-boo comes from a line of goldens with proven excellent hips. Glad of that, really. Hip troubles are so uncomfortable for our golden babies.

My previous golden had hip troubles right from 1 1/2 old, and was stiff every so often, particularly when the weather was cool or damp.

Jesse, our older Golden who passed a few months ago did. Tayla does not. I just assume it's because she has bad hips.

I call it the "frog dog" pose. :) I've heard the thing about it meaning they have good hips, too, but I had one Golden who lay like that on a regular basis, yet wound up having moderate hip dysplasia, so unfortunately, there went that theory. FWIW, he never had any problems due to the HD.

In any case, it sure is adorable! My 16-month-old Golden lies like that all the time, too. :)

My Dundee I had from 8 months old until he passed at 14yrs never did it. He was in great health except for arthritis the last year of his life.

Now Einstein, he's always in that position. Here is a younger pic of him, he's the one on the left lol! I know it's not the position we are talking about, but its crazy how flexible goldens can be!

We also have a 3 1/2 year old golden who does that all the time. She is purebred but we think she is part golden part frog!!

Two of mine did/do it, one didn't. The one that didn't had bad hips.
My vet says that's often a sign of good hips. When they lie with their back legs toward the front rather than the rear, that's often a sign of bad hips.
