Puppy with eye problem

As I continue on my puppy search, here's the newest update:
Got a call today from a breeder who said she had a puppy from a beautiful litter left. Went to see him and he is gorgeous, and sweet and I would have put him in my car, except- his eyes had those red strips that you see on some smaller dogs from eye drainage, and his eyes looked a little swollen.
The breeder said two things:
1. Its eye irritation from the sawdust in the whelping pen
2. he's light and the drainage shows up

I didn't take him because I have seen plenty of light dogs and you don't see this type of thing. She is taking him to the vet tomorrow, but I don't know exactly what she could say that would make me feel comfortable taking him. Anybody have any thoughts? I also don't want to get a dog that has obvious allergies. It is such a challenge to find the right puppy.....

He needs an OFA or CERF eye exam if you want to trust the veterinarian is experienced and knowledgeable.

Some pups have narrow tear ducts, distichia, or teething may also cause tears & staining. Sometimes maturing is that is needed to help narrow year ducts as the head broadens.

Most importantly, do the parents of this puppy have hip, elbow, heart, and eye clearances verifiable on www.offa.org
