We are BACK!!

Hello Everyone! Sorry we have been gone for SO long. Kaluhas daddy and I got married. And Kaluhas mommy has been having some serious health problems. Kaluha on the other hand is doing well. She is a wonderful golden!!! I just had some questions that I figured if anyone this forum would be the best to answer them!

Ear infections: Kaluha seems to be prone to them.. She flaps and flaps her head, scratches and cries I have been cleaning her ears out and the vet gave us some drops/gel to put in them. Is there anything I can do at home????

Splitting nails: Kaluhas nails seem to split so easily..Is this normal?

She stinks too- Ive tried giving baths... Not sure Ive found the right shampoo or conditioner. What do you use?

I have found that most shampoos with oatmeal in them work wonders for neutralizing smell and also keeping their skin and undercoat moisturized.

Welcome back!

It sounds as though yeast may be an issue - it can wreck the skin and cause ear misery beyond belief. That might account for the nasty smell and itchy ears. I would seek out a vet to do a skin/ear test culture in order to see what is going on for certain.

Our Buckskin had a horrible time with yeast infections his entire life and our vet was very helpful in finding medications that provided some relief. Also, somewhere in the archives of this forum is a recipe for a home made ear cream that is a blend of over the counter medications that may be helpful as well.
